4th Annual General Meeting of NYAB

The National Young Academy of Bangladesh has organized its 4th Annual General Meeting on January 18, 2025, at the ECE building, Department of Biomedical Engineering's seminar room of BUET.
The event was a resounding success, bringing together members, scholars, and visionaries to reflect on our accomplishments over the past year and chart an inspiring path forward.

On this occasion, NYAB proudly welcomed 15 early-career Bangladeshi scholars to its membership's New cohort of 2024. NYAB member Prof. Aminul Islam, from Bangladesh Agricultural University introduced the members. Esteemed speakers shared their insights and aspirations for NYAB’s journey. Prof. Muhammad Manjurul Karim, professor of Microbiology, Dhaka University and founder member of NYAB, addressed the membership stating the background and goal of NYAB's formation since 2019. Prof. Abdullah Shams Bin Tarique, Professor of Physics, Rajshahi University and founder member of NYAB focused on the mission and vision of NYAB in his speech. Prof. Mohammed Abdul Basith, professor and head of the Department of Physics, BUET and the immediate past president of NYAB focused on past activities and discussed NYAB's flagship initiative the "Outstanding Doctoral Research Award". Prof Muhammad Tarik Arafat, professor and head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering and the current president of NYAB focused on the interactive and scholarly activities of NYAB of the past two years. He also highlighted the vast opportunities for collaborations, research, and policy initiatives that this membership offers to elevate the scholarly excellence of Bangladesh.

The discussion was followed by an engaging scientific session where the members of the new cohort presented their research works. The scientific session was chaired by Prof. Muhammad Manjurul Karim and co-chaired by Dr. Monarul Islam, (BCSIR) founder member and treasurer of NYAB. Aligned with NYAB's commitment to diversity and inclusion, the scientific session was captivating and highly enjoyable, showcasing a rich array of perspectives and research.

The scientific session was followed by the Outstanding Doctoral Research Award giving ceremony. Dr. Mohammad Tajul Islam, NYAB member and Associate professor, Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology announced the name of the awardees. NYAB acknowledged the excellence of 6 young scholars pursuing degree from Bangladeshi Universities in five disciplines. The disciplines are Agricultural and Veterinary, Applied Sciences and Engineering, Life Sciences and Medicine, Physical Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities. The award is designed to honor young scholars who have demonstrated exceptional innovation, dedication, and impact through their doctoral work. This award celebrates innovation, dedication, and impactful research conducted in Bangladeshi universities, reaffirming NYAB’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of thought leaders. The sessions were moderated by NYAB secretary and founder member, Dr. Sabrina M Elias, Associate Professor, Independent University Bangladesh (IUB)

In the Annual General meeting new Executive Committee has been formed. New members for the president, vice president, secretary and treasurer position have been chosen. This new leadership aims to drive forward the organization's mission with renewed energy and vision, fostering academic excellence and innovation.
