SDI is a platform which has drawn NGO professionals who have adopted social development as a life time mission. SDI’s Creed:
Development that meets and the needs of the present without
compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. SDI has started its journey in the year of 1993 based at Srirampur-Sutipara
village in Dhamrai Upazila as a development and welfare organizati
on. Since
then SDI has been working with people who are suffering the most and living in heard to reach areas including river island, river basin, flood prone area and coast with development and financial assistance intervention. Currently, SDI’s working coverage spreading in 64 sub-districts within 13 Districts, Total regular staff 874. Being an organization SDI envisions that poor and marginalize people will get due share in development and social dignity thus organization adopted micro finance programme in 1995. In case of development programme there are around 35,000 grass root partners. Being an organization SDI’s programme can be seen into two folds namely development and financial support. Under its development domain there are number of project being implemented. Some of these are Resilience and economic and climate justice-REECALL, Enrich, Sports and Cultural Programme, Welfare programme for the elderly people, PACE project, Enhancing income option for the entrepreneurs through preserving produced vegetables, KGF, SDI Agriculture and livestock programme, SEIP, Pureit, Adolescent programme and WASH programme. Other than these Farmers Training Center (FTC), Animal Health Center, Office Station, Green Filed and aquaculture are being carried out in pursuing its overall goal. It is also noted that during COVID-19 Pandemic SDI has been provided support to adversely affected people. Last year SDI has been handed over a sum of 3, 76,000 BDT to Prime Minister’s Fund which in turn along with other support became worth BDT. 72, 68, 117. There were 1, 07,596 persons received support from the above initiatives of SDI. Acknowledging the importance of trained human resources SDI is working with DAE, BLRI, BEAN for enhancing capacity on safe agricultural products and production systems among farmers and other relevant personnel. Under its CSR programme there are several interventions being implemented including stipend to school and college students, provide live long support to 4 public university students and support to unwell Freedom Fighters. SDI is also working with Bangladesh Police, Dhamrai for reducing drug addiction and Department of Social Welfare for the rehabilitation of Transgender people. SDI as always observers’ national important days with due effort related to disaster and climate change awareness and social values every year. There are 71 micro credit branches and 14 development project office providing financial assistance to the grassroots people along with 14 different development and asset transfer initiatives. As of now number of grass root partners are 1, 30,748 under its micro-finance programme of which 93% are women. At present SDI providing special financial support through a loan product namely LRL with 4% interest and 6 months grace within 2 years period to those who affected by COVID-19. SDI provides loan support to poor households for having income generating activities (IGA) and develop human resources under its Enrich programme. SDI provides special loan support to elderly people with only 3 months grace period so that they could create own resource base. Providing special loan to youths to produce sandal and ball point pen.
