Which path will shape Bangladesh’s energy future fossil fuels or a just transition to renewable energy?

Bangladesh is now at a critical turning point. Continued dependence on fossil fuels is not only intensifying climate risks, but also increasing economic pressure through import dependency and energy insecurity. This pathway is no longer sustainable.

On 11 April 2026, a consultation titled “Transitioning Away from Fossil Fuels in Bangladesh: Justice and Finance Perspectives” was held, jointly organized by Dhoritri Rokkhay Amra (DHORA), Waterkeepers Bangladesh, and the Fossil Fuel Treaty Initiative.

The consultation brought together experts, activists, and stakeholders to reflect on Bangladesh’s energy future.
Key insights from the discussion include:

🔹 Transitioning away from fossil fuels requires equitable and transparent climate finance
🔹 Import-dependent energy is increasing economic pressure and threatening national energy security
🔹 Renewable energy is no longer optional it is the only sustainable path forward
🔹 A just transition is not possible without strong policy and legal reforms

Most importantly, experts emphasized that the transition must be realistic, inclusive, and people centered ensuring that no one is left behind. It must protect livelihoods, empower communities, and create opportunities for a sustainable future.

The future of energy will shape our economy, environment, and the lives of future generations. The time to act is now.

Today, on 8 April 2026, OAB Foundation ( Over All Bangladesh Foundation) proudly signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with The Earth Society under the Youth for Clean Air and Renewable Energy (Youth for CARE) initiative.

This partnership marks a powerful commitment to advancing youth led climate action, promoting clean air, and accelerating the transition to renewable energy in Bangladesh. Through this collaboration, we aim to mobilize communities, raise awareness, strengthen advocacy, and implement impactful, sustainable solutions driven by young leaders.

Since its inception, OAB Foundation has been working tirelessly for a just, green, and sustainable Bangladesh focusing on climate change, youth empowerment, and social development. Youth Climate Leadership & Community Action Training

As part of the Climate Innovation Cube – A Youth-Led Climate Learning Experience Zone, the Youth Climate Leadership & Community Action Training brought together young leaders for an interactive and empowering learning experience.

Over the sessions, participants explored key issues of climate change, youth leadership, safeguarding, and community-based climate action through interactive discussions, group work, and practical learning activities.

The program aimed to equip young changemakers with the knowledge, confidence, and tools to take meaningful action in their communities and lead the way toward a more sustainable future.

Shaping Tomorrow’s Climate Leaders

The Climate Innovation Cube A Youth-Led Climate Learning Experience Zone provided a dynamic platform for youth to engage in climate learning, innovation, and leadership.
