To mark the occasion of the International Day of the Girl Child, Shaathi Foundation organised “My Rights, Our Future” — a mother-daughter dialogue at Radian Public School in Rayerbazar, Dhaka, reaching 30 mothers and daughters.
Facilitated by guest speaker Ms. Naziba Basher of The Daily Star, the dialogue created a space for mothers and daughters to share their hopes, discuss the barriers girls face, and reflect on how families can support their aspirations.
The conversation centred on three essential priorities: keeping girls in school, ending child marriage, and ensuring every girl has the freedom to dream and shape her own future.
We also emphasised the importance of listening without judgment. Girls need to feel safe expressing their opinions, sharing their ambitions, and participating in decisions that affect their lives. Mothers and caregivers have a vital role to play in creating that space.
Aligned with this year’s theme, “End child marriage and invest in girls’ rights,” the dialogue reminded us that meaningful change begins at home — through open conversations, supportive families, and a commitment to protecting every girl’s right to learn, grow, and choose her future.
