সুইডেন দূতাবাসের (Embassy of Sweden in Dhaka ) সহায়তায় এবং মানুষের জন্য ফাউন্ডেশনের (এমজেএফ) কারিগরি তত্ত্বাবধানে বাস্তবায়িত কমিউনিটি ভিত্তিক জলবায়ু সহনশীলতা ও নারীর ক্ষমতায়ন কর্মসূচি (সিআরইএ) জলবায়ু-ঝুঁকিপূর্ণ হাওর ও উপকূলীয় অঞ্চলের নারী কৃষকদের অবদান, সংগ্রাম এবং প্রাতিষ্ঠানিক স্বীকৃতির প্রয়োজনীয়তা তুলে ধরতে কাজ করছে।

সুনামগঞ্জের উপজেলার হাওরাঞ্চলে হালিমার মতো হাজারো নারী প্রতিদিন ঘর-সংসারের দায়িত্ব পালনের পাশাপাশি কৃষি উৎপাদন, ধান প্রক্রিয়াজাতকরণ, গবাদিপশু পালন এবং দুর্যোগ মোকাবিলায় গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা রাখছেন। কিন্তু তাঁদের অধিকাংশই এখনও কৃষক হিসেবে আনুষ্ঠানিক স্বীকৃতি, কৃষক কার্ড, কৃষিঋণ, প্রশিক্ষণ ও অন্যান্য সরকারি সুবিধা থেকে বঞ্চিত। জলবায়ু পরিবর্তনের ফলে আগাম বন্যা, পাহাড়ি ঢল এবং কৃষিকাজের বাড়তি চাপ তাঁদের জীবন ও জীবিকাকে আরও কঠিন করে তুলছে।

কালের কন্ঠ-এর এই সংবাদ প্রতিবেদনে উঠে এসেছে হাওরাঞ্চলের নারী কৃষকদের নীরব শ্রম, জলবায়ু সংকটের সঙ্গে প্রতিনিয়ত লড়াই, কৃষিতে তাঁদের অপরিসীম অবদান এবং কৃষক হিসেবে স্বীকৃতি পাওয়ার প্রয়োজনীয়তা। একই সঙ্গে প্রতিবেদনটি নারী কৃষকদের জন্য অন্তর্ভুক্তিমূলক কৃষিনীতি, সমঅধিকারভিত্তিক সুযোগ-সুবিধা এবং জলবায়ু-সহনশীল কৃষি ব্যবস্থার গুরুত্ব তুলে ধরেছে।

With support from the Embassy of Sweden in Dhaka and technical oversight from Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF), the Community-Based Climate Resilience and Women’s Empowerment Programme (CREA) is working to highlight the contributions, challenges, and need for institutional recognition of women farmers in climate-vulnerable haor and coastal regions.

In the haor areas of Sunamganj, thousands of women like Halima play a vital role in agricultural production, post-harvest processing, livestock care, household management, and disaster preparedness. Yet most remain excluded from formal recognition as farmers and continue to face barriers in accessing farmer cards, agricultural credit, training opportunities, and other government services. Climate change-induced flash floods and erratic weather patterns have further intensified their workload and vulnerabilities.

This Kaler Kantho- news report sheds light on the invisible labour of women farmers in the haor region, their resilience in the face of climate challenges, and their invaluable contribution to agriculture and food security. It also underscores the urgent need for institutional recognition, inclusive agricultural policies, equal access to services, and climate-resilient farming systems that support and empower women farmers.

Through the Community-Based Resilience, Women’s Empowerment and Action (CREA) project, supported by the Embassy of Sweden in Dhaka, Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF) continues to champion the rights, recognition, and leadership of women in climate-vulnerable communities across Bangladesh.

In the coastal landscapes of Rangabali, Patuakhali, women are at the forefront of agriculture and climate adaptation. Despite facing cyclones, salinity intrusion, river erosion, and unpredictable weather, they continue to grow food, preserve seeds, care for their families, and strengthen community resilience.

Yet many women farmers remain excluded from land ownership, farmer recognition, agricultural services, and decision-making processes. Their contributions are vital but too often remain invisible.

This report highlights the realities, challenges, and resilience of women farmers in coastal Bangladesh and underscores the urgent need for gender-responsive agricultural governance and climate action.

বাল্যবিবাহ একটি শিশু বিশেষত মেয়েশিশুর শিক্ষা, স্বাস্থ্য, নিরাপত্তা ও স্বপ্নের পথে বড় বাধা। তাই কিশোরীদের অধিকার সুরক্ষা ও তাদের সম্ভাবনা বিকাশে শিক্ষার্থী, শিক্ষক ও অভিভাবকরা একসাথে অঙ্গীকারবদ্ধ।

আজ ৮ জুন, সুইডেন দূতাবাসের (Embassy of Sweden in Dhaka ) আর্থিক সহযোগিতায় ও এবং মানুষের জন্য ফাউন্ডেশন (এমজেএফ)-এর কমিউনিটিভিত্তিক জলবায়ু সহনশীলতা ও নারীর ক্ষমতায়ন কর্মসূচি (CREA) প্রকল্পের আওতায়, বাদাবন সংঘের বাস্তবায়নে মোংলার খাসেরডাঙ্গা আবু বকর সিদ্দিক মাধ্যমিক বিদ্যালয়ে অনুষ্ঠিত “এগিয়ে যাই আমার স্বপ্ন ও অধিকার অর্জনে” ক্যাম্পেইনে অংশগ্রহণকারীরা বাল্যবিবাহ প্রতিরোধ, শিক্ষার ধারাবাহিকতা নিশ্চিতকরণ এবং জেন্ডারসমতা প্রতিষ্ঠার পক্ষে দৃঢ় অবস্থান ব্যক্ত করেন।

এই ক্যাম্পেইনে শিক্ষার্থী, শিক্ষক, অভিভাবক, স্থানীয় জনপ্রতিনিধি, কমিউনিটি নেতৃবৃন্দ এবং বিভিন্ন সেবাদানকারী প্রতিষ্ঠানের প্রতিনিধিরা অংশগ্রহণ করেন।
সাংস্কৃতিক পরিবেশনা, বাস্তব অভিজ্ঞতা শেয়ারিং, মেয়েদের কারাতে প্রদর্শনী, উন্মুক্ত আলোচনা, কুইজ প্রতিযোগিতা এবং বিভিন্ন অংশগ্রহণমূলক কার্যক্রমের মাধ্যমে শিক্ষার্থী, শিক্ষক ও অভিভাবকরা বাল্যবিবাহ সম্পর্কিত প্রচলিত ভ্রান্ত ধারণা, সামাজিক কুসংস্কার এবং জেন্ডারভিত্তিক বৈষম্যের বিষয়গুলো নিয়ে আলোচনা করেন এবং এর প্রতিরোধে নিজেদের ভূমিকা সম্পর্কে নতুন উপলব্ধি অর্জন করেন।

আরো উপস্থিত থেকে বক্তব্য রাখেন গোলাম মোঃ বাতেন, জেলা প্রশাসক ও জেলা ম্যাজিস্ট্রেট, বাগেরহাট, শারমিন আক্তার সুমী, উপজেলা নির্বাহী কর্মকর্তা, মোংলা- সহ অন্যান্য সরকারি কর্মকর্তারা। তারা বাল্যবিবাহ ও জেন্ডার বৈষম্য প্রতিরোধে মূল্যবান মতামত প্রদান করেন এবং এ বিষয়ে সম্মিলিত উদ্যোগ ও সচেতনতা বৃদ্ধির আহ্বান জানান।

ক্যাম্পেইনের শেষ পর্যায়ে শিক্ষার্থী, শিক্ষক ও অভিভাবকরা বাল্যবিবাহ বন্ধে সচেতনতা বৃদ্ধি, কিশোরীদের শিক্ষা নিশ্চিতকরণ, নারী ও কিশোরীদের অধিকার রক্ষা এবং বৈষম্যহীন সমাজ গঠনের লক্ষ্যে সম্মিলিত অঙ্গীকার ব্যক্ত করেন।
বাল্যবিবাহ কোনো সমাধান নয়; এটি একটি শিশুর শিক্ষা, স্বাস্থ্য, নিরাপত্তা এবং স্বপ্ন পূরণের পথে বড় বাধা। আসুন, আমরা সবাই মিলে এমন একটি সমাজ গড়ে তুলি যেখানে প্রতিটি কিশোরী তার অধিকার নিয়ে, নিজের স্বপ্ন নিয়ে এবং আত্মবিশ্বাসের সঙ্গে সামনে এগিয়ে যেতে পারে।

সুনামগঞ্জের হাওরাঞ্চলে জলবায়ু পরিবর্তনের বিরূপ প্রভাব সত্ত্বেও নারী কৃষকেরা ফসল উৎপাদন, বীজ সংরক্ষণ এবং পারিবারিক দায়িত্ব পালনে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা রাখছেন। তবে তাদের অবদান অনেক সময় অদৃশ্য থেকে যায় এবং কৃষক হিসেবে স্বীকৃতি, ন্যায্য সুযোগ ও সেবাপ্রাপ্তির ক্ষেত্রে তারা নানা বাধার মুখোমুখি হন।

With the support of the Embassy of Sweden and implemented by Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF), the Community-based Resilience, Women’s Empowerment and Action (CREA) Fellowship programme aims to highlight governance gaps, climate-related challenges faced by women farmers, and the economic value of their unpaid labor in the agriculture sector.

In the haor region of Sunamganj, women farmers continue to play a crucial role in agricultural production, seed preservation, and household responsibilities despite the growing impacts of climate change. However, their contributions often remain invisible, and many face barriers in gaining recognition as farmers as well as access to essential support and services.

নিজের স্বপ্ন ও অধিকার অর্জনে এগিয়ে যাক প্রতিটি কিশোরী

মানুষের জন্য ফাউন্ডেশন (এমজেএফ), সুইডেন দূতাবাসের (Embassy of Sweden in Dhaka ) আর্থিক সহযোগিতায় বাস্তবায়ন করছে কমিউনিটিভিত্তিক জলবায়ু সহনশীলতা ও নারীর ক্ষমতায়ন কর্মসূচি (সিআরইএ) প্রকল্প। এই প্রকল্পের আওতায় বাল্যবিয়ে প্রতিরোধে শুরু হতে যাচ্ছে বিশেষ সচেতনতামূলক ক্যাম্পেইন—

একজন মেয়ের শিক্ষা শুধু তার নিজের জীবনই বদলে দেয় না; বদলে দেয় একটি পরিবার, একটি সমাজ এবং একটি প্রজন্মের ভবিষ্যৎ। তবুও আজও অসংখ্য কিশোরী বাল্যবিবাহ, সহিংসতা, বৈষম্য এবং সামাজিক প্রতিবন্ধকতার কারণে তাদের স্বপ্ন ও সম্ভাবনা থেকে বঞ্চিত হচ্ছে।

বিশেষ করে উপকূলীয়, হাওর ও চরাঞ্চলে জলবায়ু পরিবর্তন এবং প্রাকৃতিক দুর্যোগের প্রভাবে কিশোরীরা নানামুখী ঝুঁকি ও সংকটের মুখোমুখি হচ্ছে। তাই তাদের অধিকার, নিরাপত্তা এবং ক্ষমতায়ন নিশ্চিত করতে প্রয়োজন সম্মিলিত উদ্যোগ।

Let Every Adolescent Girl Move Forward to Achieve Her Dreams and Rights

Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF), with financial support from the Embassy of Sweden in Dhaka, is implementing the Community-Based Climate Resilience and Women’s Empowerment (CREA) Project.
Under this project, a special awareness campaign to prevent child marriage is being launched:
“Moving Forward to Achieve My Dreams and Rights”

A girl’s education does more than transform her own life—it transforms a family, a community, and the future of generations. Yet, many adolescent girls continue to be deprived of their dreams and potential due to child marriage, violence, discrimination, and social barriers.

Particularly in coastal, haor, and char areas, adolescent girls face multiple risks and challenges due to climate change and natural disasters. Ensuring their rights, safety, and empowerment requires collective action and commitment.

🌍দেখুন মানুষের জন্য ফাউন্ডেশনের সিআরইএ প্রকল্প এবং সুইডেন দূতাবাস ঢাকার (Embassy of Sweden in Dhaka) , সহায়তায় নির্মিত প্রামাণ্যচিত্রটি।

একসময় আমাদের নদীরা গান গাইত। এখন তারা বেদনায় কাঁদে।
বিশ্ব পরিবেশ দিবস ২০২৬-এ আমরা বাংলাদেশের চার নদী—বুড়িগঙ্গা, লবন্দহা, সুটাং ও হরিধোয়ার বেদনাদায়ক বাস্তবতায় ফিরছি। দূষণ, প্লাস্টিক বর্জ্য, রাসায়নিক পদার্থ আর অবহেলায় আজ তারা মৃতপ্রায়।

নদী মৃত্যু শুধু স্থানীয় ট্র্যাজেডি নয়। গবেষণা বলছে, নদী দূষণ জলবায়ু পরিবর্তনের প্রভাব ১০ গুণ পর্যন্ত বাড়িয়ে দিতে পারে, তাপমাত্রা বাড়িয়ে ইকোসিস্টেম ধ্বস করে দেয়। যে নদীগুলো একসময় কৃষি, সংস্কৃতি, পরিচয় ও দৈনন্দিন জীবনের প্রাণ ছিল, সেগুলো আজ মৃত্যুর দ্বারপ্রান্তে।

আইন-নীতি আছে। কিন্তু দুর্বল প্রয়োগ আর নিষ্ক্রিয়তায় নদীগুলো বাঁচছে না।
তবুও আশা শেষ হয়নি। তরুণেরা জাগছে, কণ্ঠস্বর বাড়ছে, পরিবর্তন সম্ভব।

এই বিশ্ব পরিবেশ দিবসে স্মরণ নয়, বরং প্রতিজ্ঞা হোক। নদী বাঁচানো মানেই জলবায়ু মোকাবিলা করা। জল বাঁচানো মানেই নিজেদের বাঁচানো।
আমরা একসঙ্গে নদী ও মানুষকে বাঁচিয়ে একটি আগামী উপহার দিতে পারি।

Once our rivers sang with life. Now they cry in pain.

This World Environment Day 2026, we revisit the haunting reality of four rivers in Bangladesh - Buriganga, Lobandaha, Sutang, and Haridhoya — choked by pollution, plastic waste, chemical runoff, and decades of neglect.

Their decline is more than a local tragedy. Research shows that river pollution can intensify climate change up to 10 times, accelerating global warming and destroying ecosystems. These rivers were once the heartbeat of agriculture, culture, and daily life. Today, they hover on the edge of death.

Laws and policies exist. But weak enforcement and inaction have failed them.
Yet, hope is not lost. Young people are rising. Voices are growing louder. Change is still possible.

This World Environment Day, let us remember: restoring rivers means fighting climate change. Saving water means saving ourselves.

Let this day be more than remembrance. Let it be a call to action.
Together, we can restore river health and reclaim a future where rivers and people thrive.

With support from the Embassy of Sweden and implemented by Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF), the Community-Based Climate Resilience and Women’s Empowerment Programme (CREA) is working to highlight the contributions, challenges, and need for institutional recognition of women farmers in climate-vulnerable regions.

In the coastal areas of Pathorghata, Barguna, women farmers are on the frontlines of climate change, facing increasing salinity, tidal surges, and crop losses. Despite their vital role in food production, seed preservation, crop processing, and household management, many remain excluded from formal recognition as farmers and continue to face barriers in accessing farmer cards, agricultural loans, subsidies, and other government services.

মহিলা ও শিশু বিষয়ক মন্ত্রনালইয়ের-মাননীয় মন্ত্রী জনাব, আবু জাফর মোঃ জাহিদ হোসে্‌ন-এর সাথে কমিউনিটিভিত্তিক জলবায়ু সহনশীলতা ও নারীর ক্ষমতায়ন কর্মসূচি (সিআরইএ) প্রকল্পের প্রতিনিধিবৃন্দের একটি সৌজন্য সাক্ষাৎ অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। প্রকল্পটি মানুষের জন্য ফাউন্ডেশন (এমজেএফ)-এর নেতৃত্বে, সুইডেন দূতাবাস (Embassy of Sweden in Dhaka)-এর সহায়তায় বাস্তবায়িত হচ্ছে।

সাক্ষাতে সিআরইএ প্রকল্পের পক্ষ থেকে মাঠপর্যায়ের অভিজ্ঞতা – এবং নারীর প্রতি সহিংসতা প্রতিরোধ, . বাল্যবিবাহ প্রতিরোধ, জেন্ডার সমতা ও নারীর ক্ষমতায়ন, জলবায়ু পরিবর্তনের প্রভাব মোকাবিলায় নারীবান্ধব জলবাইয়ু বাজেট প্রণয়ন, তরুণ নেতৃত্ব ও অংশগ্রহণ, জলবায়ু ঝুঁকি মোকাবিলা ও নিরাপদ পরিবেশ নিশ্চিত করণ বিষয়ে নানান সুপারিশ উপস্থাপন করা হয়।

প্রতিনিধিদলে উপস্থিত ছিলেন বনশ্রী মিত্র নিয়োগী, ডিরেক্টর- রাইটস অ্যান্ড গভর্ন্যান্স, সোমা দত্ত- প্রোগ্রাম ম্যানেজার এবং মোঃ আহসানুল ওয়াহেদ- প্রোগাম ম্যানেজার (জলবায়ু পরিবর্তন)।

উপস্থাপিত প্রধান সুপারিশসমূহঃ

• নারীর প্রতি সহিংসতা প্রতিরোধে আইন প্রয়োগ জোরদার এবং দ্রুত বিচার নিশ্চিত করা
• নারীর জন্য সুরক্ষা সেবা ও জরুরি সাড়া ব্যবস্থা আরও শক্তিশালী করা
• বাল্যবিবাহ নিরোধ আইন ও সংশ্লিষ্ট জাতীয় নীতিমালার কার্যকর বাস্তবায়ন নিশ্চিত করা
• স্কুল, কলেজ এবং কমিউনিটি পর্যায়ে মেয়েদের জন্য খেলাধুলা ও সহশিক্ষা কার্যক্রম (ফুটবল, ক্রিকেট, কারাতে ইত্যাদি) সম্প্রসারণ করা
• নারীর অদৃশ্য শ্রমের (unpaid care work) মূল্যায়ন ও স্বীকৃতি নিশ্চিত করা
• শিক্ষা, স্বাস্থ্য, জলবায়ু ও অর্থনৈতিক নীতিতে জেন্ডার সংবেদনশীল বাজেট নিশ্চিত করা
• বৈষম্যমূলক আইন বাতিল করে নারীর উত্তরাধিকার অধিকার নিশ্চিত করা
• নারী কৃষকদের স্বীকৃতি প্রদান, কৃষিকার্ডে অন্তর্ভুক্তি, সহজ শর্তে ঋণ, কৃষি উপকরণ ও সমকাজে সমান মজুরি নিশ্চিত করা
• জলবায়ু অভিযোজন ও সামাজিক পরিবর্তন প্রক্রিয়ায় তরুণদের সক্রিয় অংশগ্রহণ নিশ্চিত করা
• উপকূলীয়, চর ও নদীভাঙ্গনপ্রবন এলাকায় জলবাইয়ু-সহনশীল অবকাঠামো, এবং নারীবান্ধব আশ্রয় কেন্দ্রের জন্য পৃথক বরাদ্দ নিশ্চিত করা

🤝 সিআরইএ প্রকল্পের পক্ষ থেকে নীতিগত সহযোগিতা ও বাস্তবায়ন জোরদারের আহ্বান জানানো হয়, যাতে মাঠপর্যায়ের অভিজ্ঞতা জাতীয় নীতিনির্ধারণে আরও কার্যকরভাবে প্রতিফলিত হয়।

মাননীয় মন্ত্রী মহোদয় সুপারিশসমূহ গুরুত্বসহকারে শোনেন এবং বিষয়গুলো বিবেচনার আশ্বাস প্রদান করেন।

📢 Advocating for Stronger Measures to Prevent Violence Against Women and Children in Meeting with the Hon’ble Minister

A courtesy meeting was held between the Hon’ble Minister of Women and Children Affairs, Mr. Abu Zafar Mohammad Jahid Hossain, and representatives of the Community-Based Climate Resilience and Women’s Empowerment Programme (CREA). The programme is being implemented by Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF) with support from the Embassy of Sweden.

During the meeting, the CREA team shared field-level experiences and presented a range of policy recommendations on preventing violence against women, ending child marriage, advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment, promoting gender-responsive climate budgeting, strengthening youth leadership and participation, and addressing climate risks while ensuring a safe environment for women and children.

The delegation included Banasree Mitra Neogi, Director – Rights and Governance; Shoma Dutta- Programme Manager; and Md. Ahsanul Wahed- Programme Manager (Climate Change).

Key Recommendations Presented:
• Strengthen law enforcement and ensure speedy justice to prevent violence against women and girls.
• Enhance protection services and emergency response mechanisms for women.
• Ensure effective implementation of the Child Marriage Restraint Act and related national policies.
• Expand sports and extracurricular opportunities for girls at schools, colleges, and community levels, including football, cricket, karate, and other activities.
• Ensure recognition and valuation of women’s unpaid care work.
• Promote gender-responsive budgeting across education, health, climate, and economic policies.
• Repeal discriminatory laws and ensure women’s equal inheritance rights.
• Recognize women farmers and ensure their inclusion in agricultural cards, access to affordable credit, agricultural inputs, and equal pay for equal work.
• Promote meaningful youth participation in climate adaptation and social transformation processes.
• Allocate dedicated resources for climate-resilient infrastructure and women-friendly shelters in coastal, char, and river erosion-prone areas.

🤝 The CREA project team called for stronger policy support and implementation so that grassroots experiences and community priorities are effectively reflected in national policymaking.

The Hon’ble Minister listened attentively to the recommendations and assured the delegation that the issues raised would receive due consideration.
