For building a beautiful and pure family, it is essential to seek the right bride and groom in accordance with Allah’s guidance—because the ultimate destination of human life is either Paradise or Hell.
In the case of selecting a bride, it is not sufficient to consider only family background, educational qualifications, or social status. From an Islamic perspective, before marriage it is important to examine the bride’s family’s religious commitment, character, manners, moral values, and adherence to Islamic principles. There is no guarantee that a well-educated family will necessarily possess ideal character. Therefore, before making a marriage decision, one should properly assess her character, ideals, and way of life from an Islamic viewpoint.
On the other hand, in society there are many orphaned, disabled, or financially disadvantaged girls who are honest, well-mannered, and religiously committed. At times, they are neglected solely due to financial or social reasons. However, marrying such a person can be an act of humanity and nobility. Showing compassion and responsible behavior toward them can become a means of earning Allah’s pleasure.
Therefore, in choosing a bride, more importance should be given to Islamic values, good character, religious commitment, and mutual compatibility rather than outward glamour, wealth, or social status. A happy and blessed married life is built upon piety (taqwa), good character, and mutual respect.
In the case of selecting a groom as well, it is not sufficient to give priority only to educational qualifications, employment, or financial status. From an Islamic perspective, a groom’s religiosity (deen), character, moral conduct (akhlaq), sense of responsibility, and fear of Allah are extremely important. There is no guarantee that someone who is highly educated or well-established will necessarily be a good husband. Therefore, before marriage, one should properly look into his practice of prayer, adherence to Islamic principles, behavior within the family, honesty, and respect towards women.
Moreover, in society there are many honest, well-mannered, and religiously committed young men who may not be financially well-off or socially well-established. Instead of judging them solely by worldly standards, their character, faith, and sense of responsibility should be given importance. A person of good character can build a peaceful and happy family even with limited means.
In conclusion, the selection of both groom and bride should be based on Islamic principles. Not only wealth, beauty, educational certificates, or social status should be considered; rather, religiosity, good character, morality, sense of responsibility, and mutual understanding should be prioritized. According to Islamic teachings, the foundation of a successful and blessed married life is piety (taqwa), good character, and the effort to attain the pleasure of Allah.
