পশ্চিমী আধিপত্য আর ইসরায়েলি আগ্রাসনের বিরুদ্ধে সবথেকে বেশি যে ব্যক্তিকে প্রতিবাদী দেখা যেত, তিনি ছিলেন ইরানের সর্বোচ্চ ধর্মীয় নেতা আয়াতুল্লাহ আলী খামেনি। দীর্ঘ কয়েক দশক ধরে তিনি তাঁর দেশ নিয়ে লড়াই করে গেছেন। আমেরিকান নানাবিধ নিষেধাজ্ঞা আর প্রতিকূলতার মাঝেও তিনি তাঁর দেশকে গড়ে তুলেছেন মধ্যপ্রাচ্যের অন্যতম পরাশক্তি হিসেবে। গাজা এবং আশেপাশের দেশে ইসরায়েলি আগ্রাসনের বিরুদ্ধে তিনি বিভিন্ন সময় প্রতিরোধের ঢাল হয়ে দাঁড়িয়েছিলেন। যখন অনেক মুসলিম শাসক কেবল বিবৃতিতে সীমাবদ্ধ ছিলেন, তখন তিনি অন্যায়ের বিরুদ্ধে লড়াই করে গেছেন। তিনি হয়ে উঠেছিলেন মুসলিম বিশ্বের অন্যতম প্রভাবশালী নেতা। উল্লেখ্য যে, গতকাল ইরানে চালানো এক যৌথ হামলায় খামেনির সাথে তাঁর পরিবারের সদস্য এবং উচ্চপর্যায়ের সামরিক কর্মকর্তাগণ শহীদ হয়েছেন।"
