Fire destroys over 100 shelters at Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar

A fire broke out in the early hours of Tuesday at a Rohingya refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar, destroying more than 100 shelters.

The blaze started at around 3:00am in Camp-16 (Shafiullah Khata), affecting Blocks D2, D3 and D4. Firefighters and volunteers later brought the fire under control.

The extent of the damage is still being assessed. No deaths have been confirmed, though several people are reported to have been injured. Authorities say emergency support is being arranged for affected families.

The Chief Advisor of GoB, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, has arrived in Cox’s Bazar to attend a three-day international conference on Rohingya crisis solutions with stockholders.
He landed at Cox’s Bazar Airport around 10 a.m. this morning (Monday, 25 August 2025).
