Today, 25 August 2026, marks the 9th anniversary of the Rohingya genocide and the beginning of one of the darkest chapters in our collective history.

Nine years later, Rohingya women continue to carry the memories of those we lost, the homes we left behind, and the families separated by violence. Many women have endured unimaginable suffering while continuing to protect their families, raise their children, preserve their identity, and stand with their community.

On this day of remembrance, we honour the lives lost and the courage of survivors. We remember the mothers who lost their children, the daughters who lost their parents, and the women whose voices were silenced but whose stories remain.

As a Rohingya women’s organization, we reaffirm our commitment to remembering the past, supporting survivors, empowering Rohingya women and girls, and working for a future where justice, dignity, safety, and equality are possible.

We will remember.
We will continue to speak.
We will continue to hope for justice and a safe, dignified, and sustainable return to our homeland, Arakan.

Joint statement from diplomatic missions as the crisis enters its tenth year 👇

Nine years after the mass displacement of Rohingya from Myanmar, nearly 1.2 million Rohingya refugees remain in Bangladesh. On this anniversary, we pay tribute to the resilience, courage and dignity of Rohingya communities in the face of ongoing displacement and hardship. We also express our gratitude to the Government and people of Bangladesh for their generosity in providing refuge for nearly a decade.

Rohingya refugees have a right to return to their homes in Myanmar. Regrettably, conflict is escalating across Rakhine and humanitarian need is rising. Deepening insecurity, airstrikes on civilian infrastructure and the Myanmar authorities’ blockades on aid and trade are worsening the humanitarian crisis. This instability is driving further displacement into Bangladesh and across the region, leading to tragic loss of life through dangerous sea crossings. These conditions do not currently allow for voluntary, safe, dignified and sustainable repatriation. Creating the conditions for return will require a strategic, coordinated and long-term approach to address the root causes of displacement, build trust between communities, and support greater peace and stability in Myanmar. Successful repatriation will also require equipping Rohingya with the education and skills they will need to rebuild their homes, livelihoods and communities in Rakhine.

We will continue to work with Bangladesh to find pathways towards building the conditions for repatriation. Until then, we remain committed to supporting Rohingya in Bangladesh and the communities who host them, including through strengthening their self-reliance.

The future of the Rohingya response depends not only on sustaining humanitarian assistance, but on improving how it is delivered. We support efforts to strengthen local leadership and increase the role of Bangladeshi and refugee-led actors in shaping and delivering assistance. Rohingya voices must be at the centre of decisions that affect their lives and futures.

As this crisis enters its tenth year, we must ensure that the Rohingya people are not forgotten. We will continue to amplify the voices of Rohingya communities, pursue justice and accountability, and work with Bangladesh and international partners to sustain global support.

We are deeply saddened by the tragic landslide in Camp-5, which claimed the lives of eight people, including young girls and a female teacher. Fourteen people were rescued, while six remain under medical treatment.

Today, we stand in solidarity with the families who have lost their daughters, sisters, students, and loved ones. Our hearts are with every woman, girl, and family affected by this devastating tragedy.

We pay tribute to the community volunteers, emergency responders, and health workers who worked tirelessly to save lives.

May those who lost their lives rest in peace, may the injured recover soon, and may every woman and girl in the camps be able to live in greater safety and protection. No family should have to endure such a painful loss.

On World Refugee Day, we honor the strength, courage, and resilience of refugee women and girls who continue to survive and rebuild their lives in the face of displacement, loss, and uncertainty.

Refugee women often carry the heaviest burdens—protecting their families, facing heightened risks of violence, and navigating barriers to healthcare, education, and livelihood opportunities. Yet, they remain powerful agents of change within their communities.

As a women-focused organization, we stand in solidarity with displaced women and girls and reaffirm our commitment to advancing gender equality, protection from gender-based violence, access to reproductive and mental health services, and opportunities for education and economic empowerment.

When refugee women are protected and empowered, entire communities become stronger and more resilient.

Let us work together to ensure that every refugee woman and girl can live with dignity, safety, and hope for the future.

Dilla, a criminal, extorted large sums of money while he was a Tabbay of NaKaKa-5 in Maungdaw in 2024. He forced Rohingya civilians into military conscription using the power of the junta. When a family was unable to provide a boy, he extorted money from them. When people tried to flee to Bangladesh, he took money from each person.

In this art, we visualize these realities. He also abused our religious scholars in different ways. Sadly, today some camp Mawlvis are supporting him, forgetting what Tabbay Dilla did to their respective Uloma.

As Rohingya Gen-Z, we believe that silence only protects injustice.

If you or your family were affected, this is your moment to come forward and share your experience. Your voice matters. Your story matters.

We understand the fear, but truth is the first step toward accountability. You can reach out confidentially. Standing together is how we protect each other and seek justice.
