Congratulations, Nowshin Tabassum! 🎉

From Class of 2023, Environmental Sciences and now making waves in Germany! 🌊

Nowshin has been accepted into Universität Duisburg-Essen to pursue her Master's in Water Science and has been appointed as a Research Assistant under "Working Student" in Applied Microbiology at IWW Zentrum für Wasser, Germany's leading water research institute. 💧🔬

We are proud to celebrate a remarkable milestone:

1,131 volunteer teachers serving across the Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar and Bhashan Char are receiving their certificates, marking the completion of 176 hours of rigorous training in subject knowledge, pedagogy, and professional practice. 🎉

This achievement comes through the Certified Teacher Training Program for Volunteer Teachers in Grade 3, 4 & 5, a partnership between the Asian University for Women and UNICEF.

It reflects what sustained investment in education in humanitarian settings can truly accomplish.

Congratulations to every volunteer teacher, volunteer master trainer, and AUW trainer who made this possible! Your dedication is shaping futures. 🌻

The AUW Green Bangle Project organized “Voices for the Planet 2026,” a student-led sustainability event with the support of the AUW Student Government and the Environmental Sciences Club.

The event brought together eco-preneurship, climate comedy, and critical dialogue, creating a dynamic platform for students to engage with environmental challenges through innovation and creative expression. From sustainable product ideas to performances that used humor to unpack climate realities, the program highlighted the diverse and impactful ways in which students are responding to pressing global issues.

The evening also included a Book Launch & Discussion, which explored environmental histories, women’s narratives, and the connections between literature and the natural world, linking past perspectives to present conversations.

The event was enriched through its collaboration with Inside the Greenhouse and the University of Colorado, bringing a global dimension to climate engagement. This partnership supported creative approaches to sustainability communication and fostered meaningful cross-cultural exchange.

Through initiatives like these, AUW continues to foster student leadership, interdisciplinary learning, and meaningful engagement with sustainability.

Asian University for Women (AUW) is most grateful to each and every donor who has contributed to this fund supporting AUW’s mission to educate young women of exceptional capacity from across Asia and the Middle East. We extend a special thanks to Sarah Porter for supporting AUW over the past 10 years and for her help in organizing this fundraiser with Women in Unexpected Places.

Founded in 2008 through an Act of the Parliament of Bangladesh, AUW is a liberal arts and sciences institution located in Chittagong, Bangladesh. The University offers high quality education across multiple fields: 1. Applied Math & Data Sciences; 2. Biological Sciences (Biochemistry, Bioinformatics and Biotechnology); 3. Chemical & Environmental Engineering (forthcoming); 4. Computer Sciences; 5. Economics; 6. Environmental Sciences; 7. Humanities (Philosophy, Literature, History and Religion); 8. Politics, Philosophy & Economics; and Public Health.

AUW is dedicated to the education and leadership development of talented young women, all of whom share a deep sense of courage, empathy, and outrage at injustice. 2,000 students currently attend and are recruited from 22 different countries, including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Syria, Timor Leste, Vietnam, and Yemen. The University has a special commitment to identify and recruit extraordinary women from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds and areas where access to higher education is limited. Students come from the tea estates of Assam, the ready-made garment industry, rural and remote villages, refugee camps, and war-torn regions. As a result, nearly all students are on full or near-full scholarships funded by generous supporters around the world.

To date, AUW has graduated over 1,800 women who have secured employment in the private and public sectors of their home countries. Alumnae work at organizations such as Citibank, HSBC, IBM, NASA, Save the Children, UNIQLO, World Bank, UN World Food Programme, UNHCR, UNICEF, World Health Organization, and others. Graduates have also pursued further studies at top universities, including Oxford, Cambridge, Johns Hopkins, Stanford, Columbia, Duke, Brandeis, Tufts, among others. Collectively, alumnae have completed 596 master’s degrees and 21 PhDs, with an additional 170 master’s degrees and 53 PhDs currently in progress. Many have earned prestigious postgraduate awards, such as the Chevening and Fulbright Scholarships.

We would like to thank all donors and Women in Unexpected Places for your generous support of AUW. Your donations ensure that talented women, who might otherwise be overlooked, have the opportunity to access a transformative education and become leaders and changemakers in their communities and beyond.
