In Bangladesh Its really a new subject in Eye health care which was started from 2010 in Institute of Community Ophthalmology, Chittagong under Medicine Faculty; affiliated by University of Chittagong. Since 2017 this program is Under Chittagong Medical University. Optom
will be an Optometrist or Vision Science Specialist. By Definition from WHO and World Council of Optometry(WCO) , "Optometry"

is a healthcare profession concerned with the health of the eyes and related structures, as well as vision, visual systems, and vision information processing in humans. In the United States, Canada, Nigeria and Ghana, optometrists are doctors of optometry and are held to the same legal standards as any physician. Optometrists are trained to prescribe and fit lenses to improve vision, and to diagnose and treat various eye diseases. In all U.S. states optometrists are licensed to diagnose and treat diseases of the eye through topical diagnostic and therapeutic drugs, and oral drugs in 48 of the 50 states.This is not the case, however, in the United Kingdom and other countries, where optometrists do not undertake medical training equivalent to that of physicians and are therefore not considered so. Doctors of optometry are also able to perform certain types of laser surgery in some states. In other countries, patients are referred to different healthcare professionals, such as ophthalmologists, neurologists, and general medical practitioners, for further treatment or investigation.

Bachelor of Science in Optometry (B.optom).It's really a new subject in Bangladesh . Started its journey from 2010 in Institute of Community Ophthalmology under Medicine Faculty, University of Chittagong. From 2018 this course transferred to Chittagong Medical University.

The person who will pass this degree will be an Optometrist or vision specialist. Optometry is a healthcare profession concerned with the health of the eyes and related structures, as well as vision, visual systems, and vision information processing in humans.

Currently, there are 80(eighty) Graduated Optometrists in Bangladesh and there is an association who controls the quality of optometrists all over the country is named as ‘OPTOMETRISTS ASSOCIATION OF BANGLADESH (OAB)’. Currently, this association has earned country membership from ‘WORLD COUNCIL OF OPTOMETRY’. https://worldcouncilofoptometry.info/country-members/
