Bats constitute the second most species-rich order of mammals (Wilson and Reeder, 2005) consisting near 1105 species accounted globally (Simmons, 2005) and up to half of mammal species in tropical forests (Findley, 1993). South Asian region hoards 123 species of bats with about 139 valid subspecies designated within (Walker and Molur, 2003) (i.e11.02% of the total bat species, Seventeen species of
bats are endemic to South Asia). The Indian subcontinent harbors a variety of Chiropterans (Bates, P. and Harrison, 1997) including over 200 species of flying fox through the tropics and being frugivorous they have competent role in pollination and seed dispersal.( Walker, S. and Molur, M,2003) Fruigivorus bats pollinate at least at least 500 neotropical plant species of 96 genera and dispersal seeds of many , play vital role in global system. (Humphrey and Bonaccorso, 1979).). giganteus is the largest frugivorous bat on the Indian subcontinent ranging from Pakistan to Myanmar and south to Sri Lanka (Bates, P. and Harrison, 1997, Nowak R.M, 1994). Bangladesh supports 38 species of bats (Srinivasulu, C. & B. Srinivasulu, 2005)including 3 fruits bat species where Indian flying fox is most common & widely distributed through the country(khan M.A.R ,2001).In recent decades, bat populations have experienced global declines, a trend linked to extensive, recent habitat loss (Mickleburgh et al., 2002). In Southeast Asia, 20% of bat species are predicted to become extinct by 2100 (Lane et al., 2006) Although flying foxes are widespread species, they are facing high threats mainly due to lost of roosting trees, alteration of habitats, death causes by collision with electric cable & fishing net (which used by orchard owners), hunting for medicine & eating purpose and pesticide uses (Walker, S. and Molur, M ,2003, Bates, P. L.,1997,khan M.A.R ,2001). Largest colony has disappeared for cutting of tall trees in village grooves and it is estimated that 80% of known roosting trees have been lost in same process (khan M.A.R, 2001).
