We are absolutely thrilled to see such an incredible response to our contest—your energy and ideas are truly inspiring. The youth of Bangladesh are thinking deeply about the real challenges our education system faces, and that’s an amazing sight to behold.

Consider this: in rural areas, approximately 80% of school dropouts occur—and only 4% of children with disabilities even begin school, though recent efforts have upped enrollment to about 25% . More broadly, while Bangladesh has achieved a primary school enrollment rate of nearly 98%, it still spends just around 1.8% of GDP on education—well below the global recommendation of 4–6% .

Against this backdrop, your essays hold real power. By analyzing and exposing issues such as inaccessible infrastructure, teacher training gaps, economic strains on families, and social stigma, you’re not just writing—you’re igniting change.

We’re all waiting on the edges of our seats for the results, buzzing with excitement to see whose voices will lead us forward. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for participating—your work matters, and together, we’re shaping a brighter, more inclusive future.

National data shows about 60% of disabled children aged 5–17 are not in school, and those enrolled lag two years behind academically. In rural areas, structural challenges—such as inaccessible buildings, lack of ramps or accessible toilets, long distances to school, and absence of assistive tools like braille, hearing aids, and sign-language support—severely limit participation. Human factors add to the struggle: teachers often lack training in inclusive methods, and societal stigma and misconceptions frequently isolate disabled children from peers . Furthermore, poverty compounds the problem—families in remote villages may depend on their children’s labor, and school-related costs (transport, materials) are seen as an unaffordable burden.

📘 Understanding Bangladesh's National Education Policy (2010)

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2010 was introduced to establish a unified, inclusive, and quality education system across Bangladesh. It aimed to extend primary education up to class VIII, integrate madrasa and vocational education into the general curriculum, and ensure education in mother tongues for indigenous communities. The policy also emphasized teacher training, equitable access to education, and the inclusion of children with disabilities.

Despite its comprehensive framework, the NEP 2010 has faced challenges in implementation. Key recommendations, such as extending primary education to class VIII and improving teacher-student ratios, have seen limited progress due to coordination issues between ministries and resource constraints . Additionally, infrastructural limitations and societal attitudes continue to hinder the full realization of an inclusive education system .

An internship can spark a lifelong mission—and that’s exactly what we witnessed. With every step, these interns FAHMIDA BINTE MURAD ADITA, ANUSYNTHIA JAHAN CHOWDHURY HERA, FAIZA AHSAN, TASMIA MAHMUD embraced the power of active allyship, learning from and working with our visually impaired community. They didn’t just observe challenges; they helped dismantle them. Whether supporting inclusive classrooms or co-creating accessible tools, their empathy became action. Today, we honor their commitment to a world where no one is left behind. This milestone is only the start of the difference they’re destined to make.

Inclusion is a choice, and our interns UMME SUMAIA ELIN, AINUN NOWAR & S. M. ARAFAT chose it every single day. Through meaningful engagement and heartfelt advocacy, they helped transform barriers into bridges for our vision-challenged peers. Whether reading aloud, transcribing, or simply listening with intention, they nurtured dignity in every task. We celebrate not only their growth but also the joy and hope they inspired in others. Some internships teach skills. Others build souls. This journey was one of compassion in action, where our intern SADMAN SADAT SIAM, MUSFIKA RAHMAN MUNA & RUPANTI DAS stepped beyond comfort and chose courage. Working closely with the visually impaired community, they learned to see through different lenses—ones shaped by resilience, not restriction. Their contribution helped bridge gaps between systems and stories, learning and living. This wasn’t just about support; it was about standing with, not for. We proudly celebrate a changemaker who carries forward the spirit of inclusive education wherever they go.
