On February 21st, Global Shapers Chattogram Hub proudly observes International Mother Language Day! This day, deeply rooted in the sacrifices made by brave souls in Dhaka in 1952 for the Bengali language, reminds us of the profound connection between language, identity, and culture.

On 1 February, Global Shapers Chattogram came together at CRB Hills for our annual Hub Retreat and Leadership Election—a day rooted in participation, sustainability, and collective ownership.

The retreat began with a cycle rally, encouraging greener and more conscious choices for our city. This was followed by interactive activities that strengthened connection and collaboration within the community. The day concluded with a transparent and inclusive voting process, conducted both online and in person.

With the successful completion of the leadership transition, the Hub now looks ahead with renewed focus—on wellbeing, participation, and creating pathways for more voices to contribute meaningfully to our shared mission.

As we move forward, we’re also beginning preparations for an upcoming city-level convening—the Chattogram Youth Forum—bringing together young leaders and stakeholders from across sectors to explore collaboration, coordination, and the future of Chattogram. More to come soon.

Venezuelan Global Shapers from around the world have shared a joint statement on the ongoing crisis in Venezuela. In solidarity with Venezuelan voices, Global Shapers Chattogram Hub translated the statement into Bangla and turned it into a carousel for broader reach.

Representatives of the World Economic Forum’s Global Shapers Chattogram Hub paid a courtesy call on the Honorable Mayor at his office today. During the meeting, discussions were held on the potential establishment of a Skill Hub, with the support of the Global Shapers, to enable students from schools under the Chattogram City Corporation to develop skills in the use of globally relevant and cutting-edge technologies. The discussion was organized as part of the Global Shapers’ global flagship initiative, Meet the Leader.

The Honorable Mayor also highlighted his various initiatives and future plans aimed at the development of Chattogram’s youth and expressed interest in exploring potential areas of collaboration with the Global Shapers.

The meeting was attended by Yusuf Munna, Curator of the Global Shapers Chattogram Hub, and Shapers Tahidul Islam, Azneef Chowdhury, and Bin Yamin.

May the spirit of 1971 continue to shape our values, actions, and dreams as we work toward a nation defined by compassion, integrity, and collective progress.

Our hub has just reached an exciting milestone!

Together with our incredible partners and community, we’ve planted 3,000 trees on a climate-vulnerable island—an area facing severe ecological threats and development pressures.
Through this initiative, we mobilised 50 dedicated volunteers, engaged directly with the local community, and reached over 200,000 people through awareness efforts across schools, madrasas, and mosques.

These 3,000 trees will collectively absorb an estimated 66 tons of CO₂ every year, creating long-term environmental value for the region.

This journey wouldn’t have been possible without the support of Reflective Teens Trust, EcoWave, C3ER – BRAC University, and our financial contributor BSRM.

Proud of what our hub has accomplished—and even more hopeful for what we’ll achieve next as we continue building a greener, more resilient Bangladesh. 🌿
