The YouthNet Global Bandarban team came together again this week for their monthly coordination meeting. Despite the challenges and obstacles we have faced, we continue to show up, stay connected, and work together for our communities.

This meeting was a space to reflect, coordinate, and plan our next steps, with two important priorities at the heart of our discussion:

🎓 Capacity Building Training

We are planning an upcoming training to strengthen the skills, knowledge, confidence, and leadership of our volunteers. We believe that when young people have the right opportunities to learn and grow, they can create meaningful change in their communities.

🌱 Environmental Initiative: “Learning from Nature”

We are also preparing to launch “Learning from Nature”, a new youth-led environmental initiative inspired by the world around us. Nature has much to teach us about resilience, balance, adaptation, and living sustainably. Through this initiative, we want young people to observe, learn, connect with nature, and turn those lessons into meaningful climate and environmental action.

From today’s discussion to tomorrow’s action, our journey continues.

To our 2026 Changemaker Youth Grantees: congratulations. 💚

Over the past months, young changemakers across the world took their ideas for addressing violence and turned them into action in their own communities.

They brought dialogue into coffee circles, danced to challenge bullying, transformed waste into art and spaces for peace, organized for civic rights, challenged discrimination, protected ecosystems, created spaces for interfaith learning, & found distinctly local ways to practice nonviolence.

At our Changemaker Youth Grants Closing Ceremony, we came together to hear what happened when those ideas left the page and entered communities.

We are incredibly proud of this cohort, and even more excited about what they do next.

5,000 episodes of stories, dreams, struggles, and inspiration! Congratulations to Maasranga Television’s “Ranga Sokal” (Colourful Morning) on reaching this remarkable milestone this morning.

For years, Ranga Sokal has created a meaningful platform for sharing inspiring stories and conversations with personalities from different walks of life. Through its interviews, the programme has highlighted journeys of childhood, struggles, achievements, dreams, and the human experiences behind success, inspiring audiences across Bangladesh.

From YouthNet Global, we are proud that our Executive Coordinator Sohanur Rahman was featured as a guest on Ranga Sokal in 2022, in the aftermath of COP27. He shared reflections on youth leadership, the climate crisis, environmental action, and social transformation, highlighting the importance of amplifying young voices and creating space for conversations on the critical issues shaping our future.

Media platforms like Ranga Sokal play a vital role in bringing diverse stories to the forefront, encouraging dialogue, and inspiring positive change. Its commitment to celebrating human experiences and meaningful conversations has made a valuable contribution to Bangladesh’s media landscape.

Heartfelt congratulations to the entire Ranga Sokal team on this remarkable achievement. We wish the programme continued success in amplifying voices, inspiring communities, and showcasing stories of courage, creativity, and possibility in the years ahead.

🌿 Green Skills for a Just and Sustainable Future 🌍

Climate change, environmental pollution, biodiversity loss and the rapidly changing world of work are reshaping the future for young people. Preparing youth for this future requires more than traditional skills. It requires green skills that young people can apply in their everyday lives, workplaces, and communities.

Last year, at the Climate Hope Summit at BUET, young people showed their passion, creativity, and commitment to tackling climate change. Through dialogue, ideas, and youth-led solutions, they demonstrated that young people are not only concerned about the future. They are ready to take action, contribute to solutions, and lead meaningful change.

But passion and ideas need the right skills, opportunities, and supportive spaces to turn them into lasting action.

Green skills can empower young people to:

🌱 Protect the environment and take action on climate change
♻️ Adopt sustainable lifestyles and make responsible choices
💼 Prepare for green jobs and the changing world of work
🤝 Promote social and environmental equity, inclusion, and a Just Transition
💡 Develop innovative and sustainable solutions for their communities
🌍 Participate meaningfully in shaping a fair and sustainable future

Green skills are not only about employment. They are about building the knowledge, competencies, and values young people need to live sustainably, become responsible citizens, and contribute to a greener, more resilient future.

A Just Transition means ensuring that the shift toward a green and sustainable economy is fair and inclusive. For young people, this means access to relevant skills, decent and green employment opportunities, meaningful participation in decision-making, and a future where no one is left behind.

At YouthNet Global, we believe that young people should not only be prepared for change. They should have the knowledge, skills, confidence, platforms, and opportunities to shape and lead that change.

Our commitment is to create and support spaces where young people can learn, build green skills, exchange ideas, take action, innovate, and lead toward a green, sustainable, equitable, inclusive, and just future.

The time to prioritize Green Skills and Just Transition is now!

A flash flood caused by glacial collapse: as the Himalayas warm and glaciers destabilize, climate disasters like this are becoming more frequent and more deadly.

Falling glacier chunks are caused by natural tectonic movement. In this case, a massive piece broke off that the river it landed in couldn’t flush it out quickly.

But as Mike Searle of Oxford University points out: rising temperatures, as a result of climate change, speed up glacial melting and collapse.

This tragedy points toward the failure of big polluters.

Countries which contribute the most to climate change must provide much needed finance to more vulnerable nations, like Nepal.

350.org extends sympathies to those affected, and joins others in calling for immediate international support for people and communities in the region.

What happens when young minds step beyond the classroom and enter a space designed for reflection, connection, and growth?

Because leadership begins when young people are given the opportunity to explore, question, collaborate, and grow.

Surrounded by the natural beauty of Rangamati waterfront, the first residential bootcamp of the NexGen Graduate Fellowship Programme brought together 20 young fellows for four days of conversations, discoveries, teamwork, learning, and meaningful connections.

Through interactive sessions, peer exchanges, conversations with development practitioners, collaborative challenges, and moments of self-reflection, the fellows explored their strengths, shared diverse perspectives, built new friendships, and discovered how their experiences, skills, and aspirations can contribute to collective progress.

The bootcamp provided an environment for young graduates to strengthen their confidence, deepen their leadership capacity, and understand their role as bridge-builders between communities, ideas, and solutions. By fostering curiosity, collaboration, and critical thinking, NexGen is nurturing the next generation of changemakers who can transform knowledge into action and aspirations into meaningful impact.

At YouthNet Global, we believe in creating platforms where young people can learn, connect, innovate, and lead change with empathy and responsibility. The future needs leaders who can bring together purpose, action, and community-driven solutions to address the challenges of our time.

The first bootcamp has come to an end, but the NexGen journey has only just begun. We look forward to witnessing these emerging leaders continue to learn, reflect, contribute, and shape the future they envision.

The NexGen Graduate Fellowship Programme is a joint initiative of JAAGO Foundation Trust and YouthNet Global, with the Department of Development Studies, University of Dhaka as the Academic Partner. The heartbreaking scenes from Nepal’s Himalayan region remind us that the climate crisis is already reshaping lives, communities, and ecosystems. It is not a distant threat, but a reality being experienced by millions on the frontlines.

YouthNet Global stands in solidarity with the people of Nepal who have lost their loved ones, homes, and livelihoods in the devastating floods and landslides. Those who have contributed the least to global emissions are facing some of the harshest consequences of a warming planet.

From the Himalayas to the floodplains and coastal regions of the Bay of Bengal, South Asia is witnessing how climate impacts cross borders, flow through rivers, and affect millions of vulnerable communities. Our shared ecosystems, rivers, and climate risks remind us that no country can address this crisis alone.

The flooding in the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli river systems also highlights the vulnerability of critical infrastructure in fragile landscapes. As we accelerate the transition towards cleaner energy, renewable energy development must be climate resilient, socially inclusive, and ecologically responsible. Energy security must go hand in hand with ecological security and community protection.

This tragedy offers important lessons for our region. Transboundary river cooperation must move beyond water sharing debates. Stronger climate information exchange, real time data sharing, early warning systems, and coordinated disaster preparedness are essential to protect communities across borders.

We must move towards development pathways that work with nature, not against it. Science based planning, ecosystem restoration, nature based solutions, and community led adaptation must be at the centre of our climate response.

Young people across South Asia must be empowered to lead climate solutions and participate meaningfully in decisions that shape their future. Governments, institutions, and communities must work together to build climate resilient societies where the voices of frontline communities are heard and valued.

The communities that contributed the least to the climate crisis should not continue to bear the greatest burden of its impacts. Climate action must be rooted in justice, inclusion, solidarity, and a just transition that puts people and the planet at the centre.

Together, we must build a South Asia where climate resilience, justice, and dignity are at the heart of development.

A proud moment for YouthNet Global!

We are delighted to announce Aruba Faruque as our new Global Coordinator.

Alongside this new responsibility, Aruba has been awarded the Government of Hungary’s Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, Politics & Economy at Corvinus University of Budapest.

A climate and environmental activist since the age of 13, Aruba has been a dedicated member of YouthNet Global, championing youth-led climate action, justice, and sustainability. Her journey reflects the power of young leadership grounded in dignity, equity, and lived experiences.

Bangladesh’s cities are changing rapidly, and the future of mobility will shape the future of millions. But the transition towards cleaner and safer urban transport must also be fair, ensuring that workers, youth, and vulnerable communities are not left behind.

YouthNet Global andcOSHE Foundation are hosting Lab 4 at on “Shaping the Future of Mobility: Building a Just and Sustainable Transition through Youth-Trade Union Collaboration in Bangladesh.”

This dialogue will explore how collaboration between young people and trade unions can contribute to a mobility transition that protects livelihoods, promotes decent work, advances climate justice, and creates a more equitable future for Bangladesh.

As cities expand and transport systems evolve, meaningful participation from workers, youth, researchers, and communities is essential to building solutions that put people at the centre of the transition.
