"Change begins with awareness — and today, we took another step forward together!" 💚

What a meaningful and inspiring day at Bandarban Zila Parishad School & College!

Green Milieu successfully conducted another session of the "Inclusive Interactive Capacity Building Discussion", bringing together enthusiastic young minds eager to learn, engage, and contribute to positive change.

Throughout the session, participants explored important topics including gender equality, women's rights, and digital safety. Through interactive discussions and activities, they shared experiences, exchanged ideas, and deepened their understanding of these crucial issues.

This initiative is implemented by Green Milieu in partnership with JAAGO Foundation Trust, Plan International Bangladesh, with the generous support of the Embassy of the Netherlands in Bangladesh.

Every session reminds us of the power of informed and engaged youth. Together, we are creating opportunities for young people to learn, grow, and become advocates for a more inclusive and equitable society.

Together, we continue moving forward. 💚

The final day of Boto Brikkher Golpo Season 3 was filled with memories.
Before leaving Rangamati, Chakma Circle Chief Raja Devasish Roy presented a beautiful collection of photographs and moments from the six-day journey on a big screen. As the images unfolded, we relived the forests, streams, villages, and friendships that made this experience so special.

After a final group photo with Raja Devasish Roy, it was time to say goodbye and return to our own homes.
We left Rangamati carrying more than memories. We left with new perspectives, valuable lessons, and stories that will stay with us for a lifetime.

Day 5 | Reflection & Return

The final day was a day of reflection.
As we made our way back to Rangamati Sadar, we saw a community-managed shelter, another example of how communities work together to care for shared resources and support one another.

Over the past five days, we learned about community-led forest conservation, Village Common Forests, water stream protection, sustainable ecotourism, and Indigenous knowledge systems. More importantly, we witnessed how culture, values, and collective responsibility help protect nature for future generations.

As we returned to Rangamati, we reflected on everything we had seen, heard, and learned.
We came back with more than memories.

We came back with stories, new perspectives, and a deeper understanding of the people who continue to protect the forests, streams, and landscapes of the hills.

The journey ended in Rangamati,
sadar but the lessons from the hills will stay with us for a lifetime.

Day 4 took us deeper into the stories, beliefs, and conservation practices of the hills.

Our journey began at a sacred place near Porikhola Moan Para, where villagers shared stories passed down through generations, including a belief that fairies visit the area on full moon nights. These beliefs have helped communities protect and respect nature for generations.

We then trekked through the forest to Nawkaba Sora and visited the beautiful Muppochora Waterfall, where we witnessed how communities are managing ecotourism in a way that protects nature rather than exploits it. Their practices showed how conservation and livelihoods can go hand in hand.

Later, we arrived at Haja Sora, where the Chakma community warmly welcomed participants from nine Indigenous communities. The gathering became a meaningful space for cultural exchange, learning, and connection.

And yes, hardships exist. We met students who struggle to access basic education. Yet what stayed with us was not what they lacked, but what they possessed.

They possess wisdom. They possess generosity. They possess a deep understanding of nature that many modern societies have forgotten.

Day 4 reminded us that conservation is not only about protecting forests and streams. It is also about preserving stories, cultures, and values that have sustained these landscapes for generations.

Some lessons are learned in classrooms. Others are learned by walking through forests and listening to the people who call them home.

The third day of Boto Brikkher Golpo Season 3 began with a trek through the hills towards Porikhola Moan, where we had the opportunity to experience a Village Common Forest (VCF) firsthand.

As we walked through the forest, community members shared the history of the VCF, how it emerged, and how it continues to be protected through community-led rules, regulations, and collective responsibility. The forest was home to diverse flora and fauna, medicinal plants, and vital water sources that support the surrounding villages.

One of the most important lessons was understanding the connection between the VCF and water conservation. By protecting the forest, communities are also protecting the streams and springs that provide water throughout the year. The benefits extend far beyond biodiversity, strengthening community resilience and ensuring resources for future generations.

We also learned about Indigenous myths, beliefs, and sacred practices connected to forests and water sources. These stories are more than cultural traditions. For generations, they have helped communities respect nature and avoid overexploitation, becoming powerful tools for conservation.

Through discussions with community members, we witnessed how Indigenous knowledge, cultural values, and collective action come together to protect both forests and people.

Day 3 reminded us that some of the most effective conservation models are not found in textbooks. They are found in communities that have been living in harmony with nature for generations.

The day began with a boat journey towards Bileisori Moan Para. In Chakma, "Moan" means Mountain, and as we travelled across the waters, the hills slowly welcomed us into a landscape filled with stories, knowledge, and conservation practices.

Along the way, Chakma Circle Chief Raja Devasish Roy guided us through the environmental history and ecology of the Chittagong Hill Tracts, sharing valuable insights about native forests, biodiversity, and the impact of teak plantations on local ecosystems.
One of the most inspiring moments of the day was visiting the natural fish sanctuary at Deba Matha Para. Here, the community has made a collective commitment not to harvest fish, crabs, and other aquatic life from a section of the stream. Instead, they protect it, allowing nature to thrive.

We also visited a sacred waterfall, carefully managed and respected by the community for generations. Through conversations with the Headman, Karbari, and villagers during the Boto Brikkher Golpo session, we learned how community-led forest conservation works in practice.

What stayed with us most was their values. The community does not take everything nature offers. They leave fruits and food for birds and wildlife, understanding that the forest belongs to all living beings, not just humans.

Day 2 reminded us that conservation is not only about protecting nature. It is about respect, responsibility, and living in harmony with the world around us.

“Every meaningful journey begins with listening, planning, and learning together.”

The first day of Boto Brikkher Golpo Season 3 brought together the Green Milieu team, Chakma Circle Chief Raja Devasish Roy, facilitated by Chakma Raj Office চাকমা রাজ কার্যালয়
and representatives from nine Indigenous communities: Marma, Chakma, Mro, Khumi, Kheyang, Bawm, Tanchangya, Chak, and Tripura.

The day focused on field preparation, route planning, and mapping the learning journey ahead. Through discussions and collective planning, we explored the purpose of the trip and the stories, landscapes, and communities we would engage with over the coming days.

Change begins with awareness — and today, we became part of that change!"
What an incredible day it was! Green Milieu just wrapped up the "Inclusive Interactive Capacity Building Discussion" and honestly, we couldn't be happier with how it went!

Our young participants spent the day diving into some really important topics. We talked about gender equality and women's rights understanding the stereotypes that exist around us and why it's time to challenge them. We also covered digital safety, helping everyone understand how to protect themselves online. And we closed the day with a powerful conversation on advocacy — how each one of us can actually create change in our communities.

Every young person in that room today left a little more informed, a little more confident, and a lot more ready to make a difference. That's what this is all about. 💚

For generations, our grandparents sat under the Banyan tree to tell stories. The younger generation would sit with them, listen, and carry that knowledge forward. We aim to revive this tradition through our Initiative. By bringing young and old together beneath the Banyan's canopy, we are moving our learning platforms back to nature. it is a reconnection to our roots, honoring the profound religious, social, and environmental value the Banyan tree holds for indigenous communities.

if you visit the villages of the Chittagong Hill Tracts, you will see how revered these trees truly are. You will see villagers honoring the tree and offering prayers to the Brikkho Debi (the tree goddess). It is so much like a community that holds an unshakeable faith in a sacred tree. For us, it is Rowasangma the goddess who protects the villagers from danger and illness, and showers them with blessings.

Bridging generations under the shade of tradition! 🌿✨

On May 2, 2026, we successfully organized the workshop 'Boto Brikkher Golpo' Season - 1 (Stories of the Banyan Tree) at Dat Vanga Para, Bandarban Sadar.

Since time immemorial, the Banyan tree has been deeply rooted in indigenous life serving not just as a source of shade, but as an open air academy of our ancient culture.

To revive this traditional center of knowledge sharing, we brought together the wisdom of our elders and the dynamic energy of our youth.
