জলবায়ু পরিবর্তন শুধু পরিবেশের সংকট নয়, এটা একটি মানবিক সংকটও। আর এর সবচেয়ে বেশি প্রভাবটা পড়ে নারীদের ওপর।

২০২৩ সালের এক বৈশ্বিক গবেষণায় দেখা গেছে, বছরে গড় তাপমাত্রা প্রতি ১°C বাড়লে সঙ্গীর প্রতি সহিংসতার ঘটনা প্রায় ৪.৪৯ শতাংশ বৃদ্ধি পায়। সুতরাং, পুরুষদের তুলনায় জলবায়ু পরিবর্তনের নেতিবাচক প্রভাব নারীরাই বেশি ভোগ করে।

বাংলাদেশের তথ্যও একই চিত্র দেখায়। বাংলাদেশ পুলিশের ২০২১ সালের জানুয়ারি থেকে ২০২৬ সালের এপ্রিল পর্যন্ত দীর্ঘ মেয়াদের মাসিক অপরাধের পরিসংখ্যান পর্যালোচনা করে দেখা গেছে, বছরের মার্চ-এপ্রিল থেকে তাপমাত্রা বাড়ার সঙ্গে সঙ্গে পারিবারিক সহিংসতা, ধর্ষণ, যৌন হয়রানি, বাল্যবিবাহসহ নানা ধরনের অপরাধের হার বাড়তে থাকে, যা গ্রীষ্ম ও বর্ষায় সর্বোচ্চ পর্যায়ে পৌঁছে। শীত আসলে সেই হার আবার কমে।

এই বাস্তবতা আমাদের আবারও মনে করিয়ে দেয়, নারীর প্রতি সহিংসতা রোধে সচেতনতা ও সম্মিলিত প্রচেষ্টা কতটা জরুরি।

Young voices are strongest when they are heard, informed, and empowered.

Under the Shopner Sharothi – Seashore Girls Initiative, awareness sessions on Mapping Outcomes, Service Directory, and Youth-Friendly Services were successfully conducted in three schools across Cox’s Bazar, engaging 750 students in meaningful conversations around early marriage, climate change, and gender-based violence.

Through interactive discussions and open sharing, adolescent girls expressed their experiences, opinions, and concerns while learning about available support services and the importance of making informed decisions for their future.

These sessions created a safe space where young people could speak up, learn together, and become more aware of their rights, protection, and opportunities—building confidence to become advocates for positive change within their schools and communities.

Under the Shopner Sharothi–Girls’ Education and Skills Partnership (GESP) Project in Bandarban, NEET adolescent girls and young women are gaining practical Retail Sales Management training to prepare themselves for today’s competitive job market. Through interactive learning sessions, participants are building essential communication, customer service, problem-solving, and workplace skills that can help them succeed in retail and beyond.

More than just sales techniques, this training is helping young women discover their potential, strengthen their confidence, and move one step closer toward financial independence and meaningful employment. Every new skill learned is opening doors to brighter opportunities and a more empowered future.

In Bandarban and Cox’s Bazar, young girls and women are stepping confidently into the digital world through Competency Based Computer Learning training sessions under the Shopner Sharothi–Girls’ Education and Skills Partnership (GESP).

Through hands-on learning, participants explored essential computer skills, problem-solving, and digital literacy—unlocking new opportunities for education, communication, and future careers. More than just technical training, these sessions are helping young women build confidence, independence, and the courage to dream bigger for their futures.

By creating safe and supportive learning spaces, the initiative is empowering girls to become active learners, future professionals, and changemakers within their communities.

Khulna’s young changemakers are turning conversations into action!

At the Shomotay Tarunno – Youth for Equality Capacity Enhancement Session, YLO representatives came together for engaging discussions, interactive activities, and collaborative learning on gender equality, advocacy, digital safety, and media literacy.

From challenging harmful stereotypes to exploring safer digital spaces and community-driven solutions, these passionate youth leaders are building the confidence, skills, and networks needed to create meaningful change in their communities. Their energy, ideas, and commitment proved one thing loud and clear—youth voices have the power to shape a more equal future.

Under the SHIELD Project, local government representatives, youth leaders, community-based organizations, and disaster response volunteers came together for a comprehensive Capacity Building Training on Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Response Procedures in the coastal districts of Khulna and Bagerhat.

Through interactive sessions and practical learning, participants strengthened their knowledge on coastal hazards, cyclone warning systems, school-based shelter management, child protection, gender-sensitive response, and emergency first aid. From understanding disaster risks to building coordinated community action, the training focused on creating a stronger and more prepared frontline response system for vulnerable coastal communities.

By empowering local leaders and youth with life-saving skills and inclusive disaster management practices, this initiative is helping communities become more resilient, responsive, and ready to protect those most at risk during emergencies.

The SHIELD Project is implemented by JAAGO Foundation Trust and supported by ChildFund Korea in the Khulna and Bagerhat districts.
