The Barbados National Trust, founded in 1960, is an organisation which works to preserve and protect the natural and artistic heritage of Barbados and to increase public awareness of Barbados' historic and architectural treasures. The Trust also runs museums displaying a collection of artefacts owned and made by Barbadians, as well as an education programme, focusing on the island's history and wh

at it means to the future. The Barbados National Trust has built a good working relationship with other National Trusts worldwide, equally with the organisations and their members, in places such as Canada, Scotland, England, Ireland, Wales, and the United States

The preservation of the island’s rich architectural legacy is facing what a renowned expert on Barbadian architecture describes as an unprecedented crisis, with successive administrations accused of a total failure of political will to safeguard the nation’s historic built environment.

Some progress photos - Thanks to our generous donors and dedicated members, the restoration of Morgan Lewis Mill is moving steadily forward! 🧱✨ We are thrilled to share the progress of the latest repairs and additions to this iconic piece of our history.

What’s been happening on-site?
The New Tail Tree: You’ll notice the impressive timber beam now fitted to the rear of the mill. This is the tail tree—essentially the “steering wheel” of the structure. It allows the mill’s cap to be rotated so the sails can be perfectly positioned to catch the wind. It’s a vital step toward making the mill functional once again.

The New Deck: We’ve added a beautiful new decking area to allow for more seating and a more comfortable visitor experience. Enhancing our facilities ensures the site can sustain itself and remain a vibrant destination for everyone.
The Work Continues 🛠️
This is just the beginning. Our next phase is perhaps the most exciting yet: with funding, the full restoration of the arms and sails.
It is only through your continued support that we can keep our heritage alive. Thank you for being part of this journey with us.

An evening where history, performance, and place came together beautifully.

The Tyrol Cot Experience: 1854 and Beyond transformed Tyrol Cot into a living cultural experience — with music, dance, storytelling, and guided interpretation woven through the heritage village.

A strong reminder that Barbados’ history is best experienced, not just observed.

This pilot is hopefully just a glimpse into a very exciting future for Tyrol Cot Heritage Village.

That’s a wrap! 🌿🏡

Barbados National Trust – Open Houses, Gardens & Experiences 2026 has officially come to a close, and what a remarkable season it has been.

A huge thank you to everyone who supported this year’s programme — our visitors, hosts, volunteers, organisers, vendors, performers, lecturers, site teams and all those working behind the scenes to make each event possible. Your support helps bring Barbados’ heritage to life and strengthens the work of preserving it for future generations.

Our season finale at Landis Garden was a beautiful ending — with sweeping views, stunning planting, peaceful garden paths and a wonderful atmosphere throughout the afternoon. It was a fitting close to a season filled with history, culture, community and discovery.

Thank you for being part of it.

And for those who couldn’t make it — here’s a look at what you missed at Landis Garden.
