More than just sportsmanship and agility on the sand, this year’s Beach Cricket Blast brought people together for a bigger cause! 🏏🌴

Hosted by the Cricket Impact Group, corporate teams rallied to sponsor and donate to critical local initiatives. Leading the way in local impact is our new partner, Lex Caribbean. As part of their commitment to community outreach, Lex Caribbean donated trees to be planted at two local schools—an initiative that enriches student environments while driving islandwide environmental conservation through strategic reforestation. 🌳🏫✨

Meet Kaedian Redman, our next "WIRRED Interns Spotlight" feature!

Kaedian’s multi-disciplinary work at Walkers Reserve included supporting landscape maintenance and beekeeping operations. His main focus, however, was imparting the invaluable knowledge gained as a beekeeper to the youth of Barbados. 🐝

What can ancient artifacts tell us about the people who once inhabited Barbados? The students of The University of Oregon (University of Oregon)are finding out!

In collaboration with WIRRED and Walkers Reserve, the Global Education Oregon UO Global Education Oregon students unearthed artifacts and remnants of civilizations dating as far back as 700 AD. These artifacts will be preserved in Barbados, available for study by archaeologists to better understand the diverse heritage of the island.

Kyle’s wetland restoration research at Walkers Reserve protected local ecosystems by mapping waterbird nesting sites, better understanding bird behaviours and validating our new hand-made, predator-resistant platforms. 🪺

In preparation for this year's bird migratory season, the WIRRED team installed Bioacoustic Monitors at several locations throughout the island, to track bird species transiting through Barbados.

Funded in partnership with the British High Commission UK in Caribbean , these bioacoustic monitors record the calls of the any migratory and resident birds near the units, helping researchers monitor their diversity, population changes and choice of habitat throughout the island.
