"TEK DAT!" (Take that!): In Muay Thai you are encouraged "don't take something for nothing". I first heard this concept from the late American Muay Thai champion Alex Gong. The athlete who ends an exchange always has the advantage in the scoring. Always seek to return a counterstrike when attacked.

In competition, when you get your opponent on the ropes is not the time to halt your attack. You want to overwhelm them to the point that they submit, their corner throws in the towel or the referee intervenes. This translates to "killer instinct" in streetfighting.

In sparring, you need the ability to "throttle" your speed and power based on the skill level, size and abilities of your partner. Remember, it meant to be a learning experience for you both. And yes, it's meant to be fun.
