I Am A Girl NGO This is the start of a movement to bring back the Community through revitalizing the role each person in society plays in the lives of girls.

I AM A GIRL, and often also referred to as ‘the Community’, was officially launched in October 2014. It comprises of Barbadian residents that have seen a need for change within the minds, hearts and culture of the girls of Barbados. As a result, a sense of urgency for intervention encouraged the development of a holistic community modelled organisation based around the philosophy: ‘Reach One; Teac

h One’. The purpose of the Community shall be to contribute to the continual progression of Barbadian youth by providing opportunities for young "at risk" girls to be more empowered through their overall growth into adulthood with guidance and support, by aiding in their development of skills, social responsibility, career and fellowship necessary to create positive change, not only within themselves but within their families and wider communities. What does “at risk” mean? This is a term used to illustrate that a particular segment of society is statistically more prone to be unsuccessful in various aspects of their lives due to the unfortunate circumstances directly or indirectly thrown at them and/or based on something as simple as gender. This is an extremely broad concept and arguably all girls within Barbados are “at risk” in some way; however, for some it is their support system that may set them apart from how much further than others they go. This is where 'the Community' comes in and ensures that the majority are also supported.

Wait… you thought we were finished telling you about our Financial Literacy Workshop for 2026?

Well, Sagicor Asset Management Inc. ensured that an entire table of girls were secured a spot to participate in the workshop this year.

Their contribution helped eight (8) girls to be granted access to Mentorship, Financial Self-Audit, Investment Sessions, Take-away Financial Toolkits, Goal-Setting Activities, Food and Beverage All Day, and so much more.

Exactly one (1) week ago today we were in the midst of yet another Financial Literacy Workshop.

In our reflections, we are overjoyed by the impact that happened in the room, on the day.

For all the girls who presented, worked as volunteers and contributed to set up, event ex*****on and breakdown, thank you!

For all the mentors, volunteers, team members, facilitators and hosts who guided our girls through a day of investing and financial mindset shifts, thank you!

For all the suppliers, partners and sponsors who helped to ensure that the workshop gave everything it was supposed to give, thank you!

These two (2) are literally the best version of sisterhood, quiet confidence and resilience.

We are so proud to have seen them grow and flourish over the years as mentees… and now they’ve more than found their voices.

So let’s re-introduce you to Janesa and Janisha, who are mentors-in-training at I Am A Girl, and also played significant roles at our 2026 Financial Literacy Workshop just concluded today.
