Equals

Equals Equals is an organisation dedicated to working with and for the LGBTQI community. Providing, linking We were officially incorporated in 2013.

Equals is a Civil Society Organisation (CSO) that works with the LGBTQI community & key populations. Our main mandate is to work for and with persons within our key population groups to help them access quality services such as healthcare, social care, counseling, etc and to advocate for their needs in these systems. For Equals this is done by creating safe social spaces and programmes, helping pe

rsons access stigma and discrimination free services, working on policy with service providers, defending and advocating human rights issues of persons in these key populations. For a while Equals operated in the background, working with LGBTQI youth and providing a safe space for them to socialise under the support of the Caribbean HIV AIDS Alliance and the Barbados HIV AIDS Commission. Our Social Media Project is all about education and discussion on all issues relating to the LGBTQI community. We are hoping to be able to not only educate the community on issues that affect them, but also to educate those who may not be a part of the community with information on the community. The organisation is based in Barbados and we also have contacts in many departments (education, health, etc.) and if a community member requires assistance accessing a service (e.g. health care or legal) we will do our best to assist.

Happy Pride Month from Equals Barbados! Since 2018, Pride Barbados has stood as another vital time for amplifying queerness in Barbados, fostering community, strengthening alliances, and contributing to a broader global dialogue on equality, all while staying rooted in the unique realities of Caribbean life.

Equals' continued leadership in Pride reflects a deep commitment to advancing equality and inclusion right here at home. This year, that call is louder than ever. Pride '26 has FIVE organisations, all producing different events for our community across the month.

In 2026, Equals' commitment goes beyond celebration toward intentional action, supporting advocacy, encouraging dialogue, and creating spaces that truly centre the lived experiences of LGBTQ+ people. We are happy to celebrate with our partners, our allies and our community.

Support varies , for some people, it starts with access to healthcare. For others, it means finding a Safe Space to talk, getting connected to resources, or receiving support during a difficult period.

At Equals, we provide a range of services designed to help people live healthier, safer, and more empowered lives. From general health services and psychosocial support to emergency assistance when resources are available, our goal is to help the LGBTQ+ people, or anyone who comes to our clinic, and connect them with the support they need.

Every day, we work with individuals from across our community, because everyone deserves access to care, dignity, and opportunity.

At a recent event, the Canadian Union of Labour Employees (CULE) CULE - UCES connected with Equals Barbados Managing Director Rondell Trim.

CULE represents over 80 unionised staff across regional offices of the Public Service Alliance of Canada, and at the core of everything they do is a genuine commitment to equity, diversity, and social justice. This commitment did not stay in the room. CULE organised a raffle and raised funds in solidarity with Equals Barbados and the Barbados Workers Union.

The proceeds they donated to Equals (our Chair Khalil seen here collecting the donation from CULE members) will go directly toward operational costs and Pride events 2026. This will strength our ability to serve and reach members of our community.

This is what cross-border solidarity looks like in practice and we are grateful to CULE for seeing us, standing with us, and investing in the work we do every day.

Today, on , Equals marks the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia with a new website and a renewed commitment to accountability for the LGBTQ+ community in Barbados.

This year's IDAHOBIT theme: "At the Heart of Democracy,” reminds us that democratic societies are only as strong as their commitment to justice, equal rights, and inclusion for everyone. That commitment still requires daily, deliberate work, so today, we are adding a new tool to help us do it better.

Here's what the new site means for our community:
- You can continue to safely book your appointments for the clinic for STI testing, gender affirming care, regular health check and other services.
- Key reports and policies so you can see exactly how and why we make decisions
- Deeper stories; more depth than a social post can hold
A- reliable news source updates directly from us, in our own words
- More ways to reach us feedback tools are coming,
- Updates on training or opportunities for members

With solidarity, The Equals Team 🀍
