Today, we honour the life and legacy of Dr. Shelly-Ann Cox, a champion of fisheries, innovation, and people.

Dr. Cox exemplified the kind of leadership that encouraged progress while upholding integrity, supported innovation without compromising standards, and valued people regardless of title or position.

Her belief in the potential of Barbados' fisheries and aquaculture sector, and her commitment to serving others with humility and professionalism, left a lasting impression on many whose lives and work she touched.

We invite you to read our tribute and reflect on the legacy of a leader who showed that true leadership is measured not only by what we achieve, but by how we inspire others along the way.

What are the real challenges and opportunities facing mainland sea moss development in SVG?

Our latest project update shares findings emerging from ongoing environmental assessments, community engagement, and marine validation work being conducted under the SVGCF-funded initiative focused on responsible sea moss farming and climate-resilient coastal livelihoods.

Before expansion, there must be evidence, standards, environmental validation, and technical capacity building.

Looking ahead, the long-term vision behind the Grow Healthy Challenge is the development of an integrated hub that combines:

• Personal development
• Skills training
• Production systems
• Value-added processing
• Market access

A space where young people are not only trained, but actively engaged in building sustainable livelihoods.

This is not just about programs.

It’s about creating real environments where transformation can happen daily.

As I continue developing the Grow Healthy Challenge, I’ve been working toward a more integrated approach to youth development and livelihoods.

The goal is not just training, but creating an environment where young people can:

• Learn
• Practice
• Produce
• Earn

All within a single, structured system.

Too often, these elements are separated, leading to gaps between learning and real-world application.

What’s needed is an integrated model that reflects how life actually works, not just how programs are designed.

Good to see the continued investment in mariculture development in Dominica through the OECS/CBF capacity-building efforts. https://pressroom.oecs.int/oecs-and-caribbean-biodiversity-fund-strengthen-dominicas-sea-moss-sector-through-professional-capacity-building

Efforts like these are important as the region continues to explore sustainable livelihood opportunities within the blue–green economy.

From my experience working across the Caribbean in sea moss development and community-based livelihood initiatives, one thing that continues to stand out is the importance of building integrated systems alongside training efforts.

As the sector evolves, there is a growing need for experienced practitioners who can support the transition from training activities into structured, sustainable production and livelihood models.

I look forward to seeing how Dominica continues to develop this space and would be happy to connect with others working in mariculture, community development, and sustainable livelihoods across the region.

One of the key lessons I’ve learned over the years is that development cannot be separated into isolated pieces.

Mindset, skills, production, and income must work together. (Interconnection)

Through the Grow Healthy Challenge, my approach focuses on developing people holistically, before expecting them to perform in any livelihood space.

This means:
• Building resilience and discipline
• Strengthening identity and purpose
• Introducing practical, real-world skills
• Creating pathways to actual income

Not as separate stages, but as one connected experience.

Because in reality, life doesn’t happen in phases; it happens all at once.

Since re-establishing my work in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, I’ve been reflecting on something important:

Many development and livelihood programs are well-intentioned, but they don’t always translate into real, sustained income or independence.

Over the years, I’ve seen individuals receive training, attend workshops, and even start small initiatives, but still struggle to move forward.

Not because they lack ability, but because the systems around them are not designed for continuity and practical application.

This is something I’m paying close attention to as I continue working with people across communities.

We have to start asking:
👉 Are we preparing people for real life, or just programs?

Tonight was a powerful session đź’š

I had the honour of facilitating a regional training on "Regenerative Farming: Tips for Women Micro-Farmers", hosted by the Caribbean Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Livelihoods (COESL), where I serve as a preferred approved partner.

Participants joined from " St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Barbados, St. Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago, and Grenada**, creating a rich and engaging learning space filled with discussion, questions, and shared experiences.

What stood out most was a simple but powerful reflection from one participant:
👉 *“Now I understand why God placed Adam in a garden… not in a concrete jungle.”* 🌱

This session went beyond farming.

We explored how regenerative agriculture is not just about planting, but about:
âś” Building systems
âś” Improving health & nutrition
âś” Creating income opportunities
âś” Strengthening resilience in our communities

The energy, feedback, and interaction were incredible, and I am truly grateful to all who participated and contributed.

This is just the beginning.

Grow Healthy. Build Systems. Transform Lives.
