Somewhere right now, a girl is watching her first match.

She deserves a game that sees her back.

Six billion people will tune in to the most watched sporting event in the history of global media. That is the most powerful platform sport has ever had โ€” and a chance to show every woman and girl that she belongs.

On every field. Every court. Every pitch.

The beautiful game belongs to all of us.

The is not fringe anymore.

It is shaping how boys and young men think about women, relationships, and what it means to be a man.

What starts as fitness tips, dating advice, or self-improvement content can turn into messages about dominance, control, and resentment.

For parents and caregivers, this can be difficult to navigate.

In Liberia in 2014, women accounted for up to three quarters of deaths in some communities, and 50 years ago in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) women accounted for 56% of those who died.

Ebola transmission follows social realities.

In Liberia in 2014, women accounted for up to three quarters of deaths in some communities, and 50 years ago in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) women accounted for 56% of those who died.

The virus spreads along the lines of caregiving, domestic labor, front-line health work, and burial practices. Because when people are sick, women look after them.

We fear the current outbreak will follow the same pattern and call for increased financial support to primary health care programs that meet the needs of women and girls.

UN Women is on the ground in Ebola-affected countries, working alongside governments, the United Nations system, and womenโ€™s organizations to support their work.

๐Ÿ’ญ Women forced to pivot to new income streams after losing crops and livestock
๐Ÿ‘ต๐ŸฝGrandmothers ensuring their dependents needsโ€™ are met โ€“ grandchildren and elderly relatives including those living with disabilities -
๐Ÿš๏ธ Families rebuilding homes and lives after the storm.

These were the accounts shared by women in Manchester.

Support matters and the Jamaica social assistance was an anchor in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa.

Through PATH, and with additional cash assistance from UN Women Caribbean and Unicef Jamaica, hundreds of households with young children received critical support.

One young mother said she used the funds to buy fertilizer and made the switch to quick crops as her banana trees were lost. The price of fertilizer had also increased โ€œbut I need my cropsโ€ฆ To be honest I would like to own my own parlour", she shared, is her dream to expand her entrepreneurial initiatives.

โ€œIt helped me a lot, because I have my grandchildren, it fund them to go back to school, buy books and uniforms. The house top did gone but we got zinc and we put it on backโ€, said one grandmother of four.

UN Women Caribbean Deputy Representative and Head of Office a.i. Ms. Iyahen said the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, Jamaica officer and the UN teams heard firsthand about the immediate needs the families attended to.

Strengthening how support is deliveredโ€”ensuring it reaches women in ways that work best for them was the main focus of discussions between the UN Women head and her team which also included Planning and Coordination Specialist and humanitarian response focal point Angela L. Davis and Communications and Advocacy Analyst Sharon Carter-Burke and Ministry of Labour and Social Security, Jamaica Minister Pearnel Charles Jnr. and the social workers.
