Through our programs and services, the Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) of Barbados primarily works to empower women and girls by helping them to develop their potential - spiritually, intellectually and socially. The association co-operates with government and other organisations to promote justice, peace and dignity for all. From inception, our focus has been on education and empowerme
nt not only of our members, young girls and women, but also on children in our society. Our programmes and activities are very much dependent on the contributions (both financial and in kind) of members, volunteers, Government, corporate Barbados and grant funding agencies and individuals. At present, we provide in excess of 1,300 school children with breakfast daily through our Breakfast Club Programme. Our Reading Club for school-aged children is held on every Saturday (except during school vacation) at our Deaconβs Road Head Quarters. Other programmes and classes include: Square Foot Gardening, Early Childhood Education, Cooking and Sewing Project. Our Board of Management intends to ensure that our Association remains a platform for the psychological and financial empowerment of women, by providing them with access to resources and opportunities conducive of such. The introduction of new programmes and continuation of existing ones will allow us to enrich the lives of our women and children. Our Special Projects Committee was established to secure funding for, and oversee the refurbishment and continued maintenance of our facilities.
