Our Story
We are a small non-profit organization with a mission to help or assist the people of the Garden Land community (Bridgetown, Barbados) and near surrounding areas. Since the Garden Land Society was founded in 2016: Crowd funded monies for Cheryl Garnes comfort due to cancer Crowd funded monies for Cheryl Garnes funeral Raised money via GoFundMe for four students who did well in the 2017 11PLUS exam in Barbados. Two students both from Wesley Hall Primary School and Hindsbury Primary School will be awarded a Kindle Fire HD each. Why We Do What We Do We grew up in this small tight-knit village community that nurtured us and made us who we are. In some areas things have declined due to economic issues or pure neglect. Thus, we will try to assist anyone in need if the funds are available.
How We Do It Most of our funds will be raised via GoFundMe. Other funds will be obtained via donations and fundraisings. How We're Funded At present, there is no real operational budget. Most monies will come from core members for operational cost. In future, we intend to be funded through grants, corporate sponsors, and foundations. Our Mission Help/assist people in this community (especially children and senior citizens) Assist with food and household necessities for senior citizens Assist kids with school supplies Assist the needy with utility bills Cleaning up the community from waste Creating a community center Keeping the architectural integrity of the area (mainly its Chattel Houses) Creating a volunteer group of carpenters to aid in maintaining the old houses with repairs Replanting trees in the area Creating gardens
