Our original page was started on December 17th, 2010 with an initial view of educating the public on what endometriosis is. Since then, the page has grown into so much more than that! We are now (since 2016) a legally registered charity organization dedicated to endometriosis awareness and support. Our objectives are as follows:
• To increase awareness of endometriosis, Polycystic O***y Syndrome (

PCOS) and other similar gynecological disorders (excluding cancer) in Barbados
• To provide a voice and advocacy for those diagnosed and living with endometriosis and Polycystic O***y Syndrome
• To provide a forum for research and collaboration between all major stakeholders
• To promote the importance of early diagnosis and effective, relevant treatment options
• To provide psychological, emotional and financial support to persons living with endometriosis and Polycystic O***y Syndrome to the best of our ability and within our resource constraints. Our slogan is:
“Invisible does NOT mean imaginary!”

Today, on Menstrual Hygiene Day 2026, the BAEP joins the global call for a .

Menstrual health is not only a personal issue — it is a matter of human rights, dignity, equity, and access to care.

For people living with endometriosis, PCOS/PMOS, and other conditions that impact menstruation and menstrual health, the challenges can include pain, stigma, missed school or work, and limited access to support and menstrual products.

We remain committed to raising awareness, promoting education, and advocating for systems that center menstrual health and lived experience.

✨ IMPORTANT UPDATE ✨

Polycystic O***y Syndrome (PCOS) is now being referred to as Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS)

This change reflects a growing understanding that this condition is complex, varied, and deserves terminology that is more accurate and less stigmatising. This condition not only impacts the ovaries, but it can also impact the whole body. 💜

While the name may be changing, our mission remains the same:
✔️ Raising awareness
✔️ Supporting those affected
✔️ Encouraging education and advocacy
✔️ Creating safe spaces for conversation and care

Everyone’s experience is different, and you are more than a diagnosis. 🌸

Her research will make a powerful impact by informing future studies, guiding interventions, shaping future policies, addressing gaps in endometriosis and uterine fibroids knowledge in the Caribbean and highlighting the experiences of Barbadian women.

We are so proud of her commitment to driving change in research, advocacy, and awareness.

Here are some steps you can take to empower yourself so you can advocate for yourself while navigating the healthcare system;
-Educate yourself about endometriosis, its symptoms and various treatment options.
- Speak up against medical gaslighting and dismissals. Keep asking questions and never back down until your voice is heard and complaints are taken seriously.
- Seek specialised care from healthcare providers who are aware of endometriosis and have extensive experience dealing with the condition.
- Keep track of and organise your medical history and treatment records. This helps reduce misunderstandings and ensures the appropriate care is received.
- Make use of advocacy and support resources that help to navigate the endometriosis journey.
- Stay informed about the latest research and treatments to ensure you have access to the most current information.

Historically, Endometriosis was believed to mainly affect affluent women who delayed marriage and childbearing, which led to the misconception that the condition was rare among Black women. However, recent studies show that due to health disparities, endometriosis is often underdiagnosed in Black and Hispanic women, who also tend to experience poorer clinical outcomes and inadequate pain management compared to White women.
