Consultant Psychiatrist Dr. Sharon Harvey discusses how incorporating exercise and physical activity into daily life can positively impact mental health and overall wellbeing.

Exercise is not only beneficial for the body, it is powerful medicine for the mind.

Regular physical activity can help reduce stress, improve mood, support better sleep, enhance concentration, and decrease symptoms of anxiety and depression.

Whether it’s walking, swimming, dancing, cycling, or participating in sports, movement plays an important role in maintaining mental wellness.

Take care of your mind. Move your body. Prioritise your health.

In high pressure professions, stress can feel like part of the job but it doesn’t have to take over your well-being.

Engaging in regular physical activity especially endurance sports like running, swimming, or cycling can help regulate stress, improve mood, and build resilience.

Remember, caring for your mental health isn’t a luxury it’s essential for sustaining the work you do and the lives you impact.

This Mother’s Day, we celebrate the strength, love, and resilience of mothers everywhere

Motherhood is deeply rewarding, but it can also be overwhelming. Taking care of your mental health is not selfish, it’s essential.

When mothers feel supported and well, families thrive.
✨ Take a moment for yourself
✨ Rest when you can
✨ Share how you feel
✨ Accept help
✨ Set boundaries
✨ Be kind to yourself

You deserve the same care and compassion you give to others every day.

A healthy mind helps you show up as your best self for you and your family.

Happy Mother’s Day from the Barbados Association of Psychiatrists.

Waiting for results can feel overwhelming for children and parents.

The Barbados Association of Psychiatrists reminds families that this moment is important, but it does not define your child’s future. What matters most is protecting their mental well-being during this time.

Offer reassurance. Keep routines steady. Create space for your child to express how they feel and remind them that they are more than any exam result.

Let’s support our children with calm, care, and compassion.

Today, as we honour the courage, sacrifice, and legacy of Barbados’ National Heroes, we are reminded that heroism takes many forms.
Heroism is not only found in historic acts of bravery, but also in the quiet, everyday decisions to persevere, to heal, and to seek help when it is needed most.

Reaching out for mental health support is an act of strength, not weakness. It takes courage to speak, to be vulnerable, and to take the first step toward wellness.

This National Heroes Day, let us celebrate not only those who shaped our nation, but also the heroes among us who continue to choose hope, resilience, and healing every day.

You are stronger than you think.
Help is always within reach.
