Behind every climate march, every summit, and every collaboration, there’s a why. 🌍✨

A reason that fuels young people to show up, speak out, and take action. Because for us, it’s more than policy. It’s our future, our oceans, our health, our home. 💙

That’s why youth voices matter. That’s why we lead.

🏅🌍 How Does Sports Impact the Climate?

From packed stadiums and travel emissions to energy-hungry facilities, the world of sports has a real impact on our planet. But it’s also one of the most powerful spaces to lead climate action. 🌱

Across the globe, sports like Formula E, sailing, surfing, and even major football teams are reducing their footprint using renewable energy, cutting plastic waste, recycling water, and hosting carbon-neutral events. All while keeping the same thrill and excitement fans love. ⚡️🌊⚽️

For us here in Barbados and across the Caribbean, young athletes have a key role to play. Whether it’s competing sustainably, raising awareness, or starting conversations with stakeholders and spectators, youth voices bring the energy and innovation needed to make sports more climate-friendly. 🇧🇧💪🏽

Let’s keep the spirit of competition alive, while protecting the planet we play on. 💚

Excerpt from Ashley Lashley’s Remarks at the 2025 BYCASE Launch

“What is the value of a new hotel, if the beach and reefs are already gone?”

With this question, Ashley Lashley challenged us to rethink what true development means for small island nations like ours. Her words served as a reminder that progress must never come at the cost of the very ecosystems that sustain us. As we continue to expand our blue and green economies, we must ensure that sustainability isn’t an afterthought, it’s the foundation.

Meet Ciara Marshall, one of our outstanding participants in the Safe Coast Bim Programme. Following its completion, Ciara had the opportunity to intern with the Department of Emergency Management (.barbados), gaining hands-on experience.

Her journey highlights the importance of youth in Small Island Developing States taking an active role in disaster preparedness, building resilience, and learning early the skills needed to safeguard their communities against climate and disaster risks. This is her experience.

Safe Coast Bim was made possible with the support of our Partners:

Barbados Meteorological Services
Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology
Clara Lionel Foundation
Department of Emergency Management
Export Barbados
Ministry of Environment and National Beautification
United Nations Office for Disaster and Risk Reduction
