CCREEE is on the ground in Barbados this week at the Caribbean Climate-Smart Accelerator (CCSA) Climate Smart Summit 2026, joining regional and international leaders committed to accelerating climate action and sustainable development across the Caribbean.

Day 2 focused on one of the region’s most pressing priorities: turning ambition into implementation by scaling solutions, mobilizing capital, strengthening partnerships, and advancing the policies needed to build a more climate-smart and resilient Caribbean.

Representing CCREEE at the Summit were Dr. Mohammad Rafik M.S. Nagdee, Executive Director, and Lisa-Ann Fraser, Head of Operations, who engaged with policymakers such as the Honorable Ryan Straughn,
Minister in the Ministry of Finance Ministry of Finance, Economic Affairs and Investment of the Government of Barbados, investors, development partners, and private sector leaders on practical pathways to accelerate climate resilience and sustainable energy investment across the region.

Key discussions throughout the day explored:

• Climate finance and investment opportunities to unlock greater resilience and sustainable development outcomes across the Caribbean
• Public-private partnerships as catalysts for climate action, infrastructure development, and economic transformation
• Scaling innovative climate-smart solutions that can deliver impact across multiple sectors and communities
• Recognition of regional leadership and innovation through the inaugural Climate Smart Awards Ceremony
• New opportunities for collaboration, networking, and strategic partnership development

As the Caribbean continues to confront the realities of climate change, forums such as the Climate Smart Summit play an important role in connecting ideas with investment, policy with implementation, and ambition with action.

As a summit partner CCREEE remains committed to working with governments, development partners, financial institutions, and the private sector to accelerate the deployment of sustainable energy solutions that strengthen resilience, enhance energy security, and support climate-smart growth throughout the Caribbean.

Alert!! New Staff Blog | Beyond the Discovery

What happens when the energy transition meets an energy windfall?

In our latest staff blog, Aisha Trimmingham, Project Analyst, Data for Development and Youth Envoy reflects on the recent announcement that Barbados will open 19 offshore blocks for bidding and exploration and what this moment could mean for the wider Caribbean.

For small island developing states, offshore oil and gas exploration presents undeniable opportunities: new industries, jobs, revenue, investment, and greater energy security.

But it also raises complex questions.

- How do countries pursue economic opportunity while staying committed to climate resilience?

- How can resource revenues support renewable energy, grid modernization, battery storage, electric mobility, and climate adaptation?

- And how do we ensure that short-term gains contribute to long-term sustainable development?

The article explores why the real challenge is not choosing between offshore oil and renewable energy. It is about building the governance, institutions, and regional cooperation needed to ensure that today’s opportunities serve tomorrow’s resilience.

At the Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, this conversation sits at the heart of our work in policy development, technical capacity, and regional energy planning.

The discovery of offshore resources does not change the direction of the Caribbean’s energy transition. It makes the work more necessary.

Two weeks after IDB Invest Sustainability Week 2026, one message continues to resonate: financing the Caribbean's energy transition will require stronger partnerships, innovative financial solutions, and a pipeline of investment-ready projects.

CCREEE was pleased to be represented by Kiesha Farnum, Head of Partnerships and Programmes, Lisa-Ann Fraser, Head of Operations, and Meshia Clarke, Chief Technical Adviser, ASERT 2030.

A key highlight was the GFANZ Latin America and Caribbean Summit, where discussions focused on mobilizing climate finance through stronger collaboration between public, private, and concessional finance providers, improving project bankability, and accelerating implementation at scale.

Key takeaways:
• Stronger public-private partnerships are needed to unlock climate investment.
• Blended finance and risk-sharing mechanisms can help reduce the cost of capital for SIDS.
• Project preparation and bankability remain critical to attracting investment.
• Regional cooperation can help countries achieve scale and unlock larger financing opportunities.

The conversations may have ended, but the work continues as the Caribbean advances toward a more resilient, sustainable, and energy-secure future.

St. Kitts and Nevis Advances Roadmap Toward 100% Renewable Electricity

The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis has launched a major initiative to develop a national roadmap for achieving 100% renewable electricity generation.

Supported by the European Union through the Euroclima Caribbean programme and implemented by UNDP in partnership with the Greening the Islands Foundation, the roadmap will help identify the policies, investments and technologies needed to transform the Federation’s energy sector.

CCREEE was pleased to be represented by Charlin Bodley, Chief Technical Adviser for the SKN100 UNEP/GEF Project, at the two-day launch workshop held from 2–3 June 2026 at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort.

At CCREEE, we understand the importance of working collaboratively, aligning with national priorities, and supporting country-driven pathways that move renewable energy ambition into implementation.

We commend the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis, the European Union, UNDP, Euroclima Caribbean and the Greening the Islands Foundation for advancing this important work under the European Union’s Global Gateway Investment Agenda.

The Caribbean’s clean energy future will be built through partnership, alignment and action.
