📢 New EESPN Spotlight featuring CREDI Director Nermin Oruč!

The Eastern European Social Policy Network (EESPN) has published a new Spotlight with Nermin Oruč, Director and Founder of CREDI, on “Turning Evidence into Meaningful Policy Change in Bosnia and Herzegovina.”

The interview explores CREDI’s experience in bridging research and policymaking, with a focus on evidence-based policymaking, social and employment policies, labour migration, policy evaluation, microsimulation and capacity building.

It also highlights the importance of regional cooperation across the Western Balkans and collaboration with European research and policy networks in strengthening research capacities and turning evidence into practical policy solutions.

🌱 Exploring climate transition pathways for the Western Balkans

Our Director, Nermin Oruč, participated in the MultiFutures – Western Balkans Policy Workshop, held on 9 September in Skopje.
The workshop brought together policymakers, researchers, experts and other stakeholders to explore how ambitious climate transition goals can be translated into realistic and actionable solutions for the Western Balkans.

Through scenario discussions, backcasting exercises and policy dialogue, participants explored pathways towards a more sustainable future, linking long-term visions with concrete policy actions.

CREDI’s participation reflects our continued engagement in green transition, sustainable development and evidence-based policymaking, with particular attention to the socio-economic implications of the transition across the Western Balkans.

The workshop was organised by Izmir University of Economics, ZIP Institute and MEF Energy Forum within the Horizon Europe MultiFutures project.

📞🌍 CREDI ponovo istražuje stavove građana o klimatskim promjenama i požarima na otvorenim prostorima!

Nakon prvog kruga istraživanja provedenog 2023. godine, CREDI i njegov Odjel za prikupljanje primarnih podataka ponovo provode istraživanje u Bosni i Hercegovini o nivou svijesti građana o povezanosti klimatskih promjena i požara na otvorenim prostorima. 🔥🌱

Istraživanje se realizuje u zemljama Zapadnog Balkana, u okviru konzorcijuma predvođenog Institutom ISPPI Univerziteta „Sveti Ćirilo i Metodije“ u Skoplju, dok je CREDI zadužen za realizaciju istraživanja u Bosni i Hercegovini.

☎️ Podaci se prikupljaju putem telefonskog anketiranja (CATI), koje provodi obučeni tim anketara iz CREDI centra. Novi krug istraživanja omogućit će praćenje promjena u svijesti i stavovima građana u odnosu na rezultate iz 2023. godine.

🎉 We're excited to share that CREDI has been awarded a grant under the EU-funded "Re-form for Growth" Small Grants Programme!

Through our new project, IPOLIS-BiH: Pilot System for Monitoring Human Capital Reforms under the Reform Agenda, we will develop and pilot an IPOLIS-based indicator system to support evidence-based monitoring of key human capital reforms in Bosnia and Herzegovina. 📊🇧🇦

As part of the programme launch, our team also participated in the Capacity Building Workshop in Tirana, Albania 🇦🇱, where grantees and project partners from across the Western Balkans came together to exchange knowledge, strengthen capacities, and build new regional partnerships. 🤝

We look forward to contributing to more transparent, accountable, and evidence-informed reform processes while working closely with partners across the region. 🚀

🤖 What does the future of work look like in the age of AI?

More than 30 young people, employers, representatives of public institutions, and civil society organisations came together on 25 June 2026 in Sarajevo to discuss how artificial intelligence is reshaping the labour market and what this means for young people in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Through an interactive dialogue, participants explored key challenges, identified priorities, and co-created recommendations for strengthening AI and digital skills, improving the education-to-employment transition, and ensuring that young people have a stronger voice in shaping future policies.

The event was organised by CREDI as part of the PATHFINDER – Unlocking the Potential of Youth on AI Learning for Active Transition to Employment through Democratic Participation (Project ID: 101253819), funded by the European Union through the Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values (CERV) programme.

A big thank you to everyone who contributed their ideas, experience, and enthusiasm to this important dialogue. Together, we are building evidence-based solutions for the future of work.

⚡ Shaping the Future of Energy in Bosnia and Herzegovina

On 23 June 2026, CREDI brought together representatives of public institutions, the energy sector, the private sector, international organisations, academia and civil society for a consultative event dedicated to the future of energy transition in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The event featured the presentation of CREDI's new report, Energy Transition in Bosnia and Herzegovina, prepared in cooperation with the GAP Institute within the Green Industrial Policy (GIP) Framework for the Western Balkans, supported by the Open Society Foundations - Western Balkans.

Participants also had the opportunity to hear a case study presented by Almir Bajtarević from Heidelberg Materials Cement BiH d.d. Kakanj, showcasing the company's experience in addressing the challenges of the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) through decarbonisation and innovation.
The event concluded with a panel discussion, "The Future of the Energy Sector in Bosnia and Herzegovina," featuring Selma Hasić (GIZ Bosnia and Herzegovina) and Anes Kazagić (Elektroprivreda BiH). The discussion explored key priorities for accelerating the country's energy transition, including renewable energy development, electricity grid modernisation, industrial competitiveness, energy efficiency and financing the transition.

Thank you to all speakers and participants for contributing to an engaging and constructive discussion on the future of Bosnia and Herzegovina's energy sector.

📘 New Publication | Energy Transition in Bosnia and Herzegovina

CREDI has published a new report, Energy Transition in Bosnia and Herzegovina, providing an evidence-based analysis of the country's progress, challenges and opportunities in building a more sustainable, competitive and resilient energy sector.

The report examines:
⚡ Renewable energy development
🏭 The impact of the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM)
🌱 Just transition and labour market implications
💰 Financing the energy transition
📑 Policy recommendations for accelerating decarbonisation

The analysis highlights Bosnia and Herzegovina's strong renewable energy potential while identifying the regulatory, institutional and investment barriers that continue to slow progress. It also outlines practical recommendations to support evidence-based policymaking and ensure that the transition is both economically competitive and socially inclusive.

The report was prepared by CREDI in cooperation with the GAP Institute as part of the Green Industrial Policy (GIP) Framework for the Western Balkans, developed with the support of the Open Society Foundations – Western Balkans.
