Talis Festival & Academy

Talis Festival & Academy Talis Festival & Academy is an intensive chamber music program where Academy Fellows and professionals work together as peers.

Our concerts feature collaborations between world-recognised musicians and Talis Academy Fellows in the unique city of Sarajevo. Our Resident Artists include Ming-Feng Hsin and Wen Qian (violin), Tonya Burton (viola), Ditta Rohmann (cello), Natsuki Fukasawa (piano), Andrea Kollé (flute), Pawel Cal (French horn) and more. In past years, we have auditioned over 600 applicants and welcomed annually 14 Talis Academy Fellows and composers from the USA, Europe, Australia, Asia and South America. Talis Festival & Academy is a performance program in which participants are immersed in a musical environment where preparation to performance moves at a very fast pace. Designed to emulate professional situations, Academy Fellows prepare for high performance standards with minimal rehearsals. All Fellows proved to be very talented and on their way to great paths in their musical careers. We are very excited to bringing new talent to Sarajevo. While we are still captivated from our 10th season, we want to continue the celebration of our alumni. Nathalie Schmalhofer is now in her 5th season with the Gewandhausorchester in Leipzig. Here are some of her memories from Talis from both Switzerland AND Bosnia & Herzegovina:

I cherish countless memories from the Talis Festival, especially after attending three times. It is a truly special place where people from all over the world come together, united by our shared passion for music. One of my dearest memories during my second year, was performing Souvenir de Florence (Tschaikowsky) alongside another performance of the Dvořák Piano Quintet. The unique charm of Sarajevo, delicious food and the many new friendships made along the way, the Talis festival has left a lasting and meaningful impression on me.
