The Balkan Museum Network is non-governmental organization established for exchange, dialogue and promotion of museums in the Balkans, and to preserve and celebrate the complex common heritage of this region. It is based on mutual respect and guided by a commitment to professionalism and shared ethics. It supports the development of creative museum leaders and is underpinned by the principles of p

eace and reconciliation through heritage of the past, present and future. The BMN was created after the highly successful โ€˜1+1:Life & Love Simultaneous Exhibitionโ€™ led by the Cultural Heritage without Borders. Today, Balkan Museum Network gathers over 40 institutional and 20 individual members, and is constantly growing.

What does a museum actually do in 2026?
That's the question at the heart of this year's Meet, See, Do conference โ€” and we're building the programme around five themes drawn from the ICOM museum definition:
๐Ÿ”น Redefining the Museum in the 21st Century
๐Ÿ”น Museums, Communities and the Future of Heritage
๐Ÿ”น Museums in the Service of Society
๐Ÿ”น Participation, Accessibility and Inclusion
๐Ÿ”น Ethics, Care and Sustainability in Museum Practice
Which of these themes keeps you up at night โ€” or gets you out of bed in the morning? Tell us in the comments. And if you have something to say on any of these topics, consider turning it into a workshop proposal.
๐Ÿ“ฉ The call for facilitators is open until 20 June. Full details in the comments.

โœจWhat a fantastic webinar series! ๐ŸŽ‰

We had the privilege of listening to 6 inspiring presentations from colleagues in Durrรซs, Maribor, Belgrade, Sarajevo, Novi Sad, and Ovelgรถnne as part of our "Sharing What Works" webinar series!

From creative exhibitions and educational museum programmes to the exciting challenges of 3D digitalization โ€” there was so much to learn and be inspired by. ๐Ÿ›๏ธ๐Ÿ’ก

Missed the sessions? No worries โ€” you can catch the recordings on the BMN YouTube channel! ๐ŸŽฅ Links for Session 2 and Session 3 are in the comments below.

โš ๏ธ Unfortunately, due to a technical issue, we weren't able to record dr. Brunilda Liรงaj's presentation โ€” "The Peeping Tourist" โ€” a fascinating exhibition that transformed Albania's communist-era tourism archives into a hands-on, gamified adventure for Gen Z visitors. However, we're happy to share the PowerPoint presentation upon request!

We're committed to continuing these online meetups โ€” sharing good practices and strengthening connections across our community. ๐Ÿค

๐Ÿ‘‰ Would you like to present your own example? Get in touch โ€” we'd love to hear from you!

๐Ÿ›๏ธ Share examples how museums make us feel better!

The Museum of Vojvodina is marking 50 years of its education and presentation department with an international conference that puts people at the heart of museum work: Museums That Care โ€“ Well-being, Community and Museums.

From October 1โ€“3, 2026 in Novi Sad, we'll be exploring how museums reduce stress, spark creativity, foster belonging, and contribute to the well-being of individuals and communities. Because museums are so much more than guardians of the past โ€” they are places of encounter, dialogue, and emotional empowerment.

๐Ÿ“ฃ Do you run a program that connects museums and community well-being? Share it with us! Applications for a 15-minute presentation are open until June 30, 2026.

Want to join without presenting? Register as a participant until July 15.

โœ… The conference is free of charge.

Heritage Adapts! is the first global campaign built to support local stewards like us in protecting heritage from climate change. And now, it's open to everyone.

Whether you're a small community museum or a large institution, there's a place for you here:
โœ… Take the collective pledge to adapt by 2030
๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ Follow a self-paced program through every stage of climate adaptation
๐Ÿค Connect with a global network of peers who get it
๐Ÿ“Š Access localised climate data you can actually use

You don't have to figure this out alone. The heritage community adapts better together.

๐Ÿ›๏ธ What do young people look for in museums โ€” and what can museums offer them in return?
These were the questions at the heart of the Fostering Museum Engagement with Young Adults project (2025/26), in which Kulturanova worked with curators and educators to design museum programmes that truly speak to young audiences.
Because young people don't just come to look. They come to experience, question, and find themselves in relation to what they see.
As part of the project, museum professionals went through two training modules:
๐ŸŽฎ Museum of Games โ€” exploring the fundamentals of game design and how designed experiences shape the way we think, feel, and participate.
๐Ÿ™‹ Engaging Young People in Programmes โ€” practical tools for involving youth as active co-creators, not just visitors.
The programmes that were created are now live on the Novi Sad City of Learning platform! The links are in the comments.
Know someone working in culture or education? Tag them โ€” this might be just the inspiration they need! ๐Ÿ’ก
