📚🌻 The Road You Do Not Choose
On June 12, 2026, the book “La strada che non scegli – A True Story” by Grazia Gironella was presented at the Bertoliana Library (Palazzo Cordellina) in Vicenza, Italy.
The book tells the true story of Amela Velić, who leads Bosnian Doctors for Disabled, and portrays a life shaped by challenges, disability, and the pursuit of independence, but also by resilience, determination, and hope.
The event was supported by the City of Vicenza, the Regional Council of Veneto, Insieme per Sarajevo, the Bertoliana Library, and numerous partners and sponsors. The discussion with the author and the protagonist of the book was moderated by Franco Pepe.
This is not only the story of one person. It is a story about dignity, independent living, and the right of persons with disabilities to make decisions about their own lives.
We thank the author, organizers, and partners for helping share this important story from Bosnia and Herzegovina with an international audience.
