IOM handed over a new administrative facility in Zagorič to the Ministry of the Interior of Montenegro. 🇲🇪

Funded by the European Union under the "EU Support for Migration and Border Management" programme, the facility will serve as headquarters for the Border Police Sector and host the future National Coordination Centre (NCC).

Held within the framework of the Berlin Process, under Montenegro’s 2026 Chairmanship, and hosted by the North Macedonia Ministry of Interior (Министерство за внатрешни работи / Мinistria e Punëve të Brendshme) , the Western Balkans Border Police Chiefs’ Forum brought together senior border police representatives from across the region, alongside international partners, to strengthen cooperation on migration management, border security and the fight against cross-border crime.

Over two days, participants discussed shared regional priorities, including:

✅ Regional migration trends and security threats
✅ Return and readmission
✅ Migration data sharing
✅ Operational cooperation and joint task forces
✅ Visa control and capacity building

IOM contributed its expertise in support of coordinated, evidence-based and protection-sensitive responses to shared migration challenges across the Western Balkans.

The Forum concluded with the presentation of the Berlin Process Border Police Chiefs’ Chair's Conclusion, reaffirming a shared commitment to stronger regional coordination.

Working together makes our borders safer, strengthens resilience against organised crime, enhances security for all citizens across the Western Balkans and Europe, and and promotes effective border governance grounded in human rights and international protection principles.
