Today, the dogs at Hope VMS Elaine’s Dogs are safe because of you.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

This month’s rent appeal was not easy. It was a struggle, and we know many of you saw how close to the edge we were. Right up until the 11th hour, we still did not know whether we would reach the target.

Without your kindness, we honestly do not know what we would have done.

But once again, our loyal supporters stepped forward when the dogs needed you most. Because of your donations, your shares, your messages and your encouragement, we reached the amount needed for this month’s shelter costs.

That means the dogs still have a safe place to sleep.

It means the shelter doors remain open.

It also means our shelter workers can be paid on time.

That part is sometimes easy to overlook, but it matters deeply. The rent appeal does not only help keep a roof over the dogs’ heads. It also helps pay the wages of the people who care for them every day, feeding them, cleaning, comforting frightened dogs, treating wounds, giving medication, and making sure no dog is forgotten.

Like everyone else, our shelter workers depend on receiving their wages on time so they can pay their own bills and look after their own families.

Your support helps protect the dogs, but it also helps protect the people who care for them.

Towards the end of the campaign, many of you will have seen Orion, one of the dogs whose home was depending on this appeal. His story helped remind us what this was really about. Not just a bill. Not just a deadline. But real dogs, like Orion, who need the shelter to still be there tomorrow.

Every donation, whether large or small, became part of something real:

A safe kennel.

A full food bowl.

A worker paid for their long days of care.

A frightened dog given another night of safety.

A shelter still standing when it came so close to not being enough.

We never take your generosity for granted. We know times are difficult for many people, and we know that every donation is a choice made with kindness.

Look at these three.

They do not know what rent is. They do not know that every single month, before we can buy food, before we can pay the vet, before we can rescue another dog, we have to somehow find €2,180 just to keep this shelter standing around them.

They only know they have grass under their paws, safe kennels to sleep in and people who will not hurt them.

Hope VMS Elaine’s Dogs has no reserve funding. Every rescue, every vet visit and every monthly bill is only possible because supporters donate when the need arises.

That safety costs €73 a day. June starts in two days, and right now we still do not have the shelter rent covered.

Every month we run a shelter rent appeal, not because we want to, but because without it none of this exists. Not the kennels. Not the outdoor space. Not the place where dogs like these three get to simply breathe, rest and feel safe for another day.

These dogs may look peaceful lying on the grass, but their future still depends entirely on whether we can keep this shelter open through June.

This month's Shelter Rent Appeal runs from 30th May to 10th June 2026.

I almost scrolled past his photo too.

Just another stray dog on another roadside.

But then I saw his eyes.

This poor soul had been hit by a car, left bleeding, terrified and alone, while also carrying a huge untreated tumour that had clearly caused him pain for a very long time.

And somehow... he’s still fighting.

His name is Chupko, and tonight a rescue shelter in Bosnia is desperately trying to keep him alive.

I’m asking you, please, don’t scroll past him.

Even the smallest donation could help pay for the emergency treatment that is giving this sweet boy a chance to survive.

A Dog Sits Waiting

A dog sits waiting in the cold autumn sun,
Too faithful to leave, too frightened to run.
She's been here for days now with nothing to do
But sit by the road...waiting for you.

She can't understand why you left her that day
She thought you and she were stopping to play.
She's sure you'll come back, and that's why she stays
How long will she suffer...how many more days?

Her legs have grown weak, her throat's parched and dry.
She's sick now with hunger and falls, with a sigh.
She lays down her head and closes her eyes.
I wish you could see how a waiting dog dies.

But there is still hope to be saved from this fate
To be rescued and recovered from this pitiful state.
With gentle hands and soothing touch
We treat her wounds, no care too much.

A tasty meal gives her strength to wag her tail and turn her head
She looks at us kindly as we put her to bed.
The weeks pass by and we manage her pain
She's taken for walks and plays once again.

But staying in rescue isn't quite right
She dreams of a family to be with her at night.
Although surrounded by love and no longer alone
She still sits waiting in the hope of a home.

TO MY RESCUE DOG

There’s no need to flinch when I lift my hand
No need to cower each time I stand
No need to run when I come near
No need to tremble - I see your fear.

You can sleep with both eyes shut,

This little girl should still be sleeping safely in someone’s home, not recovering from life on the streets.

Melanie is only 10 months old. She weighs just 16kg and has the gentlest soul. She loves people, children, dogs and even cats. All she ever wanted was kindness, cuddles and somewhere safe to rest her head.

But before we rescued her, Melanie was living on the streets and was at risk from dog catchers. A sweet, harmless puppy had become unwanted simply for existing.

Now she is safe.

She has been tested and thankfully she is negative for disease. She is finally sleeping peacefully instead of surviving day to day.

But rescue never ends at “saved.”

Every dog we pull from danger brings vet bills, vaccines, passports, blood tests and ongoing care. Right now, Melanie’s own vet costs are €125, and our overall vet debt has quietly grown to more than €2,000.

We know those numbers are large. We also know people can feel overwhelmed when rescues constantly ask for help. The truth is, we struggle with posting these appeals because we never want this page to become “just another fundraiser.”

We want this page to be about hope. About second chances. About dogs like Melanie who were invisible to the world until someone chose to care.

That is why sharing matters so much.

Not everyone can donate, but every share helps Melanie reach new hearts. Every comment tells Facebook to show her to more people. Every person who follows our journey becomes part of keeping dogs like her alive.

Today, the dogs at Hope VMS Elaine's Dogs in Bosnia are sleeping safely because of you.

A few weeks ago, we were terrified we might lose the shelter. The rent was becoming impossible to cover, and we honestly did not know how we would keep the doors open for the dogs who depend on us every single day.

But then something beautiful happened.

You showed up.

Because of your donations, your shares, your kind messages, and your support, we reached the goal for this month’s rent. That means frightened rescue dogs still have warm beds. Puppies still have a safe place to play. Senior dogs still have comfort, food, and love while they wait for families of their own.

This shelter is not just ours.
