Yutaro just wants to be a stand-up person, a real adult. One that doesn’t just go around punching people that do lousy s**t.

He has a heart of gold, as he jumps in front of a truck (he didn’t get isekaid) to save a kitten. Fast forward 15 years, and Yutaro wakes up, confronted with a world he helped create.

You see, after the cat-saving incident, Garden came into existence. It’s a mix of a social media platform and a surveillance system. Basically, this manga is a Truman’s Show/Big Brother hybrid of sorts. Everyone can watch everyone do anything. There are cameras everywhere. Privacy is not really a thing here. Pretty similar to what we have today, isn’t it???

Of course, this sort of social critique can be nuanced, or it can be blunt and in poor taste. So far, we have a bit of both in War of the Adults. Certain aspects of such a society are portrayed with a nice shade of grey, like how the public opinion swings wildly and quickly, as attention spans are short and people only operate on worship/cancel modes, no in-between.

But then you get the “villain”, aka the dude that created Garden, who was inspired by Yutaro’s brave act, and he just feels like a cartoon villain. Which, to be fair, we have many of those IRL at this moment too, but I would have appreciated a bit more complex writing for a dude that ushered in a crazy social credit dystopia.

So, Harusaki is the twin sister of Kamihime, the princess who wrecks absolutely everyone and traumatised our heroine during that one match. Also, Harusaki’s entire family is evil as f**k lol, the kind of cartoon evil you only find in shounen manga. Takes you a bit out of the story, but this is meant for kiddos, so we bear with it.

Is the axe coming? Probably. No one expected this one to last long, but it was one hell of a time, that’s for sure. Shunrai Table Tennis is the kind of basic shounen story you enjoy without thinking too much about it. The characters are hella entertaining, the hidden yuri aspect is also funny as f**k, and the art style f**king POPS OFF. It’s just a fun story.

Aztec Turning of Heaven is a brand new manga on Shueisha, translated by the one and only AI bulls**t company known as EC INNOVATIONS, since Shueisha doesn’t have money to pay ACTUAL translators anymore.

Anyway, this one looks pretty fun. It’s another magical war on the Cartel manga, this time with some Re:Zero horror mixed in. It’s EXTREMELY EDGY, so please keep that in mind. Torture, executions, all of that is turned up to 11, so don’t expect a tame story with normal characters. Everyone is an edgelord and a psychopath here.

So far, the art is the only thing that goes beyond what we usually see in new manga. The characters and the writing didn’t do it for me, but it is the first chapter. I hope this ends up being a solid thriller, the one that scratches that itch for pure brutality. Just need the author to nail that, since so far it reads like something a 15-year old that listens to WAYYY too much Slipknot would write. I know because these stories were something I have written at 15.

New manga alert!

Slap Shot Girls, by Alpa, the dude behind that SUPER WEIRD ASS ALIEN MANGA that I talked about a long time ago, is back with a sports manga!

And not just any sports manga; this one centers on an MMA fighter who tries hockey after her boyfriend dumps her. Pretty simple introduction, right, hahahhhahaahaa. Anyway, this author has a knack for writing truly engaging and endearing weirdos, and the first chapter already has my attention.

First, is this yuri on ice? Maybe. Second, will Kurumi stay a weirdo throughout the whole story? A 100% yes. Third, is the art style as distinct as ANKOKU Delta? No, not really. Alpa’s going for a much more grounded visual identity for Slap Shot Girls, but it still looks pretty f**king good.

Anyhow, this is another sports manga, alongside the table tennis one, that I’m going to follow. Which is weird as f**k, since I don’t really vibe with sports manga, but some of these just pack a ton of charm and action in them. And that’s all I want in my new series.

¡Se acerca una tormenta de verano! by Oh_miau is a rare Gold Award winner from the Creators platform, and you will see why when you read it.

This is not a supernatural shounen story. It’s not a generic romance comedy either. It’s a simple, very short glimpse into the day in the life of a nameless boy who’s repeating a year.

Now you might think, oh, so he’s a dumb f**k. Which may be true; failing a year, at least in my country, is REALLY hard to do, but maybe it was something else. In the end, it doesn’t matter.

Failing a year isn’t a problem in and of itself. The boy getting separated from his friend Leon, and most likely the rest of his gang, IS the problem.

As a kid, getting left behind by your other friends f**king sucks. I remember trying my hardest, even in my early 20s, to keep my OG friend group. Fought tooth and nail. I mean, those are the people with whom I got drunk for the first time. Tried drugs, light and hard, for the first time. DID CRIME TOGETHER. Y’know, those were my boys. But life had different plans for each of us, and I barely see any of them today. And that’s just how life goes.

¡Se acerca una tormenta de verano! means: “A summer storm is approaching!” in Spanish. Storms bring change. Change that we often fear, but change that we need. Even if you lose your old friends, new ones will waltz right into your life. And your life is LONG, so those childhood friends may be dear to you, but they’re only present at the start of your story, for a short time.

This is a wonderful one-shot, with minimal dialogue, a gorgeous visual style, and a bittersweet story. Ain’t a better way to start the Autumn season than with something like this!
