During a recent UNESCO IOCARIBE Marine Spatial Planning workshop in Colombia, our Marine Conservation Specialist, Sietske van der Wal, joined fellow Caribbean practitioners to exchange knowledge and learn from countries advancing their marine spatial planning efforts.

One key takeaway: effective Marine Spatial Planning requires collaboration and continuous adaptation. As Aruba works towards its 30x30 target and builds on its recent UNESCO Biosphere Reserve designation, working together will be essential to ensuring a future where people and nature can thrive side by side.

But here's the thing: every species matters. Whether they made the starting XI or not, Aruba's biodiversity depends on all of them working together as one team. And Aruba's biodiversity depends on all of us to be their voice.

What happens beneath the surface is directly connected to life on land. To our tourism. To our food. To our economy.

So the question is not whether the ocean—and Aruba’s waters in particular—have something to say.

The question is whether we are willing to listen, to understand, and to act in its best interest.

During the most recent Naturalesa ta Papia's Encuentro di Conocemento sessions at Centro di Bario Dakota and Teresita Center, experts and the community came together to learn more about Aruba's native flora. There is just so much to learn and the enthusiasm is a testament to the interest that exists for the nature that is uniquely Aruba's

Six participants who took part in a quiz on Aruba's native flora won native plants grown and cared for by our rangers in ACF's greenhouse. These plants will now find a home in local gardens, helping to contribute to a greener future for Aruba's native species.

Thank you to all who attended, asked questions, and contributed to the conversation. together, we continue to deepen our understanding of Aruba nature.
