On Saturday it all happened – Eliza’s Game.
What started as Andy's idea months ago – a way for everyone to “do something” when no one really knew how – turned into something bigger and more beautiful than we could have ever imagined.
The day honestly felt flawless. The games ran so smoothly, the catering was delicious and efficient, the bar was full of laughter, and the entertainment zone was just pure fun. Everywhere we looked, people were smiling, connecting, remembering why they came.
In one day, we had what we think was about 1000 people come through the grounds, 374 players registered, 14 games of hockey played, one quick sun shower (Eliza's way, I think, of squishing us all together to watch the final game) followed by an incredible field encompassing rainbow 🌈
We started and finished the day with her favourite songs and Lightning Cat's fire show to end the night was one of the most moving, magical things that we know Eliza would have loved.
And together, we raised nearly $90,000.
We gave out two cheques for $40,000 each to Hurt to Help Limited and The Kids Research Institute Australia and even more special was seeing the Boylen family, our friends facing their own unimaginable challenges, receive $20,000 from Hurt to Help. As all invoices are paid we will change those cheque numbers to be even higher, amazing!
We did it. The love, the energy, the laughter, the tears – it was all for Eliza and it was all because of you.
I have so many thank you’s…
To our amazing sponsors – for saying yes without hesitation. You simply blew us away.
To every volunteer – you gave so much of yourselves to make the day work. You are all so amazing, we are all so grateful for you.
To everyone who came along, played, watched, or just hung out – having you there meant the world. The WORLD.
To Lisa Astle and Gemma Bovington for your time and amazing photography.
To Jase Gabriel– thank you for being such an incredible MC. You truly are a wonder and we couldn’t have asked for anyone better!
To the York Hockey Club- you let us do a complete take over of your club rooms and your grounds while encouraging us and giving so much. Thank you.
And to my beautiful friends who helped bring this whole thing to life – you threw yourselves into this for Eliza, and you stood beside me as I faced new layers of grief and acceptance. I couldn’t have done it without you, and I’ll never forget what you gave us.
Saturday was more than just a world record attempt. It was a community of people spanning all of WA, coming together for our girl, and her dream for us to give her money and continue to make money for "the doctors and the other kids."
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.
