The York Maams Men's Group is back for September, and we invite all men to join us to begin work on the Yarning Circle Project in Kambarang.

Come along for a yarn, connect with other men in the community, share ideas, and contribute to creating a space that reflects culture, connection, and community.

🌼 York Maams Kambarang Program - September 2026 🌼

The York Maams Men's Group welcomes the season of Kambarang, a time of renewal, growth, and abundance on Noongar Boodja. As the weather warms and wildflowers begin to bloom across the landscape, Kambarang reminds us of the importance of strengthening our connections to Country, culture, community, and each other.

Throughout September, the men will come together every Wednesday from 10:00am to 1:00pm at the Post Office Building, 134 Avon Terrace, York WA 6302, to continue developing the York Maams Yarning Circle Project. These sessions provide opportunities for yarning, cultural sharing, skill development, and creating a lasting community space for future generations.

🌿 Please Note: During Week 3, the group will head to Wave Rock for a cultural excursion, spending time on Country, sharing knowledge, and strengthening cultural connections.

We welcome Aboriginal men to join us as we gather, create, learn, and connect throughout this important season.

York Maams are invited to come together for our next Men's Group session as we continue moving forward with our Yarning Circle Outdoor Seating Project.

We'll be working alongside Nic Compton on the next stage of the project, focusing on completing our totem animal carvings and incorporating them into the overall design and structure of the yarning circle.

We'll also have a yarn about our upcoming cultural excursion to Wave Rock in September, with updates and planning for the trip.

York Maams Men’s Group – Next Two Week’s Session 🖤💛❤️

Our Maams are back next week to continue Phase 2 of the Yarning Circle Seating Project with local sculptor Nic Compton and elder Dennis Kickett. The men have already made strong progress, and the carving work is now moving into the detailed shaping of their animal totems.

This project is giving the men the chance to learn a new skill set in sculptural carving, while contributing to a public art project that will become a permanent part of our community’s cultural landscape.

We’re looking forward to another hands‑on session full of teamwork, learning, and cultural pride.

Our Maams have kicked off Phase 2 of the Yarning Circle Seating Project, working alongside local sculptor Nic Compton and elder Dennis Kickett. The men are now moving into the fine‑detail carving of their animal totems — and the progress is incredible.

Today’s session has been full of focus, teamwork, and cultural pride. The totems are really starting to take shape, with the men carving the finer details that bring each story to life.
