This is an historical pic of both the old and new bridges simultaneously in place across Ross Creek in the early 1970's. We checked on progress on the new bridge as we passed each day on the school bus. The old access to Yeppoon was Mathew Flinders Drive from Cooee Bay, along Wattle Grove and across the old bridge. With the new bridge, they built the new access road across the mudflats to Cedar Park. That bit of new road was 80 km/h back then. No traffic lights.

This is the 'Addie May', built by Keith McDougall at Emu Park after WW2. His younger brother Ron also built the 'Tradewinds' and the 'Oceanus' there. Keith and his wife Addie fished all up and down the Queensland coast in this boat, for prawns, scallops and Spanish mackerel. (Thanks Peter Ball for sending this pic and storyline. Peter worked on the boat).

An old Gulf of Carpentaria boat at jetty shot from more than 60 years ago. FWE is the 'Rama' which was there with a couple of other trawlers doing pioneering prawn survey work for fisheries which led on to the rapid development of the Gulf prawn fishery. Later spent many years fishing off Yeppoon.

An unusual catch!. A pod of spent phosphorus rockets trawled up off Cape Townshend some years back. This area is out from Shoalwater Bay, where military exercises are frequently conducted. (Thanks Scott Maclean for this pic taken on the 'Shannon'.)

Trees washed out of estuaries in floods are the bane of all banana prawn fishermen. They cause a huge amount of downtime, plus major gear damage. Often, the crew have to get into the water with saws to cut these trunks up into manageable pieces. (Thanks Scott Maclean for this pic of a bad morning off Townsville on the 'Shannon' back then.)

It is 1928 at Port Alma wharf. Must have been a massive hit by this steamer 'Eumaeus' on the old timber structure while berthing. They reckon that more than 100 ft of the wharf structure was demolished in this incident. (Pic from CQ Old pics and Yarns FB site.)

Video of the world record ski attempt in 1994.involving the 'Reef Seeker'. Almost did it. Maybe should have got a trawler operator to help design and build those towing booms.
