The Yeppoon Inlet Association (YIA) is an Incorporated Not for Profit Association in Queensland.

In 2025, the YIA was registered as a Charity by the Queensland Government. Our charitable focus is on environmental projects within the Yeppoon Inlet.

Hundreds of sailing dinghies at the Keppel Bay Sailing Club Regatta over the weekend. Just wonderful to see so many visitors to our great town and main beach.

There a couple of canoes / skis washed up in Figtree Creek today. Are these off anybody's jetties in the Inlet? There has been a bit of mischief about lately with break ins and vandalism occuring. Please all boat owners check your vessels.

Local 50 foot trawler 'Shrimp' steaming along with the trawl gear on board outside of Pearl Bay in the 1970's. (Thanks Peter Ball for sending this very nice pic of the old girl. Was a bit unusual that this vessel had timber safety rails.)

Update : Jetty Sold today
Jetty site in Figtree Ck for sale.

Jetty site DE has 13.5 m frontage, good access in a wide part of the creek, town water connection and approved Engineering plans for re-construction.

(There are 61 approved jetty subleases in the Yeppoon Inlet managed through a 30 year Trustee Lease between the Yeppoon Inlet Association (YIA) and the Livingstone Shire Council. This jetty lease area is within a designated non-commercial recreational reserve. All jetty owners must be financial members of the YIA and abide by the approved lease conditions. No renting of jetty sites is permitted. )

Gardner 6LXB.150 HP powered many trawlers and fishing boats back in the day. (Another great refurbished engine pic from the Gardner Engine Facebook Group.)

For Gardner marine engine enthusiasts. These two huge British built slow revving eight cylinder diesels were completely refurbished in the 1990's by Ajay Clarke and are pictured ready to go back in. Just amazing engines, very economical running and they will easily do 50,000 hours between rebuilds if looked after. These would power a 80-100 ft vessel. Blast from the past! January 1972 and a Gladstone fisherman brings in a 250 kg+ black marlin. The newspaper storyline tells that marlin are rare out on the reef, but many of us have hooked into them while trolling and drifting baits for Spanish Mackerel east and north of Yeppoon and out towards the Swains Reef. We always enjoy the unexpected excitement of reels screaming and these very large fish leaping and tail walking and doing somersaults behind the boat and then we are glad to see them spit out the hook and disappear into the blue. (Thanks to regular contributor Peter Ball for sending us the newspaper clipping.)

Some time ago, we posted about the 'Kanomi' sunk and abandoned by the owner in Figtree Creek. This week, Maritime Safety Qld organised it's removal. She was a sad sight. (Thanks Roy Mynott , Kurt Oh and Tracy Christie for sending pics.)
