Gudamulli Everyone
Language cannot belong to one person.
It is a shared responsibility—an obligation we hold to one another as Woppaburra people. Our language is far more than words on a page. It carries our identity, our culture, our protocols, our lores, our practices, and our deep connection to Country. Language is born in Country, and shaped by stories and relationships.
As many of you know, I’ve been undertaking formal qualifications to support the language reclamation work I’ve already been doing. This study has given me access to archival materials—including sound recordings—as well as a strong network of language learners, speakers, teachers, and experts. This includes Aboriginal language speakers and linguists, alongside non-Indigenous linguists who have strengthened my understanding of both the technical aspects of language acquisition and the real-life challenges of language reclamation within the community.
If language is something you’re interested in, I strongly encourage you to consider attending this upcoming webinar (attached). There may be certain enrolment requirements, but please don’t let that discourage you. Our language is a collective responsibility. The more of us who learn, use, and teach it, the greater the chance that future generations will grow up born into language, not just learning it later in life.
Let’s walk this path together—strong for our old people, strong for our young ones, and strong for our future.
Happy to yarn with anyone about the course.
