Fraser Coast flood update (Monday, 9 March, 9.30am) 🌧️

The Bureau of Meteorology has upgraded its flood warning for the Mary River following heavy rainfall across the catchment overnight.

Tiaro Bridge is currently closed due to rising river levels.

At Maryborough, the Mary River is currently below the minor flood level but is expected to exceed the minor flood level (5m) from late Monday afternoon.

Current forecasts suggest the river may reach around 7m overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, with minor flooding, although higher levels remain possible depending on rainfall across the catchment.

Based on the latest forecasts, additional bridge closures may be required in Maryborough late this afternoon as river levels rise. We will update the community further as more details become available.

Preparations for the Lamington Bridge closure must begin once the river reaches around 4.5m, before the bridge becomes inundated at approximately 5.5 m.

Access to Granville Bridge via Tiger, Kent and Guava Streets can also be lost at around 5.7m on the Mary River (Portside) gauge.

Major flooding in the Burrum–Cherwell catchment may also lead to flooding impacts in areas such as Pacific Haven.

🚗 Residents are reminded to stay off the roads where possible and never drive through floodwaters.

Fraser Coast weather update and sandbag information (Friday 6 March 2026, 10.30am) 📢

Forecasts for rainfall over the weekend and into early next week are still changing, so we encourage you to stay informed and prepare now, just in case. At this stage, the heaviest rainfall is predicted for Sunday (8 March) and Monday (9 March).

Our catchments are already quite saturated, so if we receive heavy rain in a short period, there is a risk of flash flooding. Flash flooding can rise and fall quickly, so please remember: if it’s flooded, forget it.

We strongly encourage people to stay off the roads during heavy rain where possible, to avoid placing extra pressure on emergency services.

SANDBAGS 👇
Self-serve sandbag filling points are open at:
✅ United Warriors Football Club car park at 187 Tavistock St, Torquay
✅ Pacific Haven airfield
✅ Maryborough Airport
✅ Maryborough SES Depot (limited hours)
✅ Sandy Straits SES Depot, Boonooroo

Further sandbag filling points are being set up today at:
• Hervey Bay TAFE car park
• Gatakers Boat Ramp car park
• Urangan Boat Ramp car park
• Tinana Recreation Ground car park.

Please visit the Disaster Dashboard and check under ‘Active Centres’ for more details on locations and opening times: https://disaster.frasercoast.qld.gov.au/

These are sandbag filling points so please bring your own shovel. If you think you are going to need sandbags, we encourage you to get them sooner rather than later.

We are opening these additional sandbag filling points to make it easier for residents to access sand and help spread demand across multiple locations.

ℹ️ Please stay informed via our Disaster Dashboard: https://disaster.frasercoast.qld.gov.au/

Yengarie Rural Fire Brigade with Dunmora RFB and Aldershot Rural Fire Brigade responded to Gungaloon State forest to contain a fire by back burning from the fire break to prevent from going on to freehold land. On the way to the fire we had to negotiate a bridge crossing and the local traffic! Job well done crews.
