The Melbourne Cup was back at Yea Rotary tonight. Racing maybe the sport of kings but tonight reinforced that the larrikin, knockabout Australian from regional Victoria (Seymour) can co-own a Melbourne Cup winner - Knight's Choice (2024). Rod Bain was a wonderful storyteller. And Rotarians got to touch and drink out of a piece of history! Thanks Rod for a wonderful evening and terrific stories and thanks to the Sacred Heart PS caterers for a delicious meal. A top night all round!!

Did you know that the Garden Expo weekend is just over two weeks away and all vendor sites are full, so there will be lots for you to see? Combined with guest speakers, great food and face painting on Saturday, plenty of value for your $10 entry (if ticket purchased on line) or $12 at the gate. 9am - 3pm Sat and Sun 19th and 20th Sept.

Also, two beautiful spring gardens are open for the weekend at a separate cost of $10 total. Again, tickets can be bought online at Try Booking (just enter Yea Garden Expo), at the Garden Expo gate, or outside Foodworks for the next two Saturdays, plus at the garden gate on the 19th and 20th Sept. There is also a raffle with first prize being a wheelbarrow full of garden goodies valued at $400., plus 2nd and 3rd prizes also lots of garden goodies.

It is always a pleasure when past exchange students return to Yea, years after their exchange. Last evening Louis Thevenet from France, returned to the club to tell us about his life six years on from his year in Yea. Louis is in his last year of studying and is involved in agriculture and has been lucky enough to experience farming on four continents - Europe, Australia, Africa and Asia. He gave an informative presentation and said it was in Yea that he discovered his vocation. Great to see you again Louis. You are welcome anytime!

The club also had Zanni talking about the Kids Teaching Kids Program, which kicks off on the 1st September at the Yea Wetlands. This program has been running for many years and is a successful program supported by the UG Landcare Network.

Finally, everyone enjoyed a delicious meal provided and served by the Yea and District Riding Club. What's not to like about being a Rotarian? Guests are always welcome to attend meetings. Details on the club's website.

Rotary Youth Exchange is a terrific program. Past exchange student Louis Thevenet from France is back in Yea after being here as a student in 2019-2020. Special is that his younger sister Philippine is currently on Rotary Youth exchange in Bendigo. They are both in Yea this weekend and it was great to catch up with both of them. Louis is our guest speaker this coming Thursday. Great to have you back in Yea Louis.

The End Polio free BBQ and fairy floss session is in full swing outside Yenckens in the main St of Yea. Why not come along and enjoy a free sausage and maybe have your photo taken with Big Ted. He is very cuddly! All donations go towards helping to End Polio, which now exists in just two countries in the world! Club members will be there until 2pm today. Hope to see you.
