Being one of the 20 finishers at today's 212 event would require a strong passion for parkrun. The Winter Solstice was imminent, and the weather this morning, with its constant drizzle and wet conditions, felt decidedly wintery, a marked departure from the beautiful sunrises we've grown accustomed to in recent weeks. Congratulations to local Glenn SCHMIDT on reaching his 50th milestone.
We're grateful for the visitors from Werribee, including Chantal LUCI, who achieved her 100th tourist streak, and appreciate that all 3 also gave their time to volunteer. A stunning dawn sunrise over the lake set the tone for a flawless winter morning for the 42 participants in our 211th event, drawing visitors from SA, NSW, Melbourne, and nearby towns to enjoy the picturesque course. We also welcomed 2 newcomers to the parkrun family. The winter season was certainly in evidence at today's parkrun, with fog settling over the lake, thereby rendering the picturesque scenery less than ideal for showcasing to the 68 participants, over 50 percent of whom were visiting from outside our town. It was heartening to see numerous young children enjoying their time with family members and friends. The final parkrun event before winter 2026 saw 35 participants cross the finish line. Congratulations are in order for Leanne TANNER, who reached a milestone of 50 completions, and Blake ROCKLIFF, who achieved his 10th junior completion. Andrew Nelson, a visitor from Melbourne, secured the top spot in his inaugural parkrun experience. The favorable weather conditions in May have enhanced the parkrun experience at Yarrawonga, and it was delightful to see a team from Bunnings participating in their first parkrun. It's excellent to see local groups embracing the event. Several participants achieved notable milestones: Anthony Stamwell marked his 25th run, Marj Adkins celebrated her 50th volunteer, and Christine Partington reached 150 volunteer sessions. A cold but sunny morning greeted the 38 participants that took part in today's event with over 1/3 visitors from as far as New Zealand, Perth, the Sunshine Coast Newcastle and others from closer Victorian towns.
