Over the weekend Yarrabah PCYC along with the Canendo family took 3 Yarrabah teams to Innisfail to complete in Diamonds In the Sky - Su***de Intervention Carnival. Both our Opens and Women’s teams made it to the Grand Final, coming away as runners up. Our very own- Jessie Murgha, Arthur Gordon and Steven Cousins (Cuzzy) all walked away Best and Fairest. Well done everyone- and Thankyou to Cuzzy and the Canendo’s for making basketball happen for our PCYC kids.

Our team training day on Monday was perfect timing for Dorothy and Bridget to add some new activities into Team Up on Wednesday. The students did so well, with some really challenging problem solving activities that needed a lot of teamwork and persistence. Students were asked how they felt during the activity and one said ‘I wanted to punch something’. And then when asked how he felt after the team achieved their goal, he said ‘so happy’. They learned that doing HARD things and not giving up, is GOOD! Especially when you get to share that success with a team.

On Monday PCYC staff went to Northern Outlook in Redlynch for a team training day. We learnt lots of fantastic new activities to help our youth develop all different skills. Conflict management, communication, leadership and many other important skills can be taught in fun and exciting ways, where our kids don’t even know they are learning.
