Progress sometimes happens when you least expect it!

Levi, the foal is completely unhandled, suspicious of humans and anything too close to him. I have been working every day to pat him during dinner and so far only touched his face.

Tonight, out of the blue (with no food) he let me scratch his neck and wither and seemed to enjoy it. Patience has really paid off and I look forward to building on this! ❤️❤️

Please sign the petition to help stop arial culling of Brumbies. I am horrified that shooting horses from the air has been a strategy from the Government. Shocking!

The full story hasn't been put out there - so here is a summary.

The Government (and the Invasive Species Council) were pushing out a message that the number of wild horses at Kosciuszko National Park had exploded – up to 21,700. Locals said that it simply wasn't true.

The Government announced that because there were so many horses in the Park, humane options like fertility control were not possible and they would have to use extreme measures like aerial shooting.

We ran an inquiry where we heard from experts that it was biologically impossible for there to have been such an explosion of numbers. Horses are pregnant for 11 months – but based on some of the data being released every horse would have had to have given birth to 7 foals in a year to reach the numbers being claimed. There was also a lot of questioning about the use of the model used to estimate the population numbers with many explaining it will grossly exaggerate the number of animals.

We also heard about the risks of shooting during foaling season, as well as the fear horses experience while being chased down and shot amongst each other.

The report that contained all this evidence was gutted by Labor and the Shooters Party who voted together as a block to silence this evidence and remove it from the report.

Meanwhile, the Government had already started their shooting spree. Now they are saying they have killed or rehomed 6,396 and there may be only 1500 left. That means there may have only been around 8000 brumbies to start with - nowhere near the 21,700 claimed.

While I do not believe that aerial shooting is ever justified - clearly the Government's justification for it was entirely invalid.

Now the same campaign groups are pushing to remove all protections so that every last horse could be killed. I suspect this is to distract the public from the data not adding up - and the lack of justification for taking actions that caused immense suffering to animals.

We must keep fighting to stop more cruelty occurring.

We are looking forward to going to the next gear market at Ayr Hill on Saturday. We still have a tonne of gear to sell at very cheap prices to raise funds for feed and vet bills. Hope to see you there!

Less than a week to our Gear Market Night. Set yourself a reminder to come on down and grab yourself a bargain, or it’s not too late to book yourself a stall to sell your own items. We look forward to seeing you all there and thank you for supporting our club.

Thank you to all those who have donated to the mare and foal. We have decided on names and the mare is now called Lady Mumma-lade and Levi for the foal.

After a month of feed, you can definitely see a difference!

This is how the mare feels about ropes or being caught…. It’s clear where the foal gets it from!!
