is a business association that works to aid and assists businesses in the Yarra Valley region. The Chamber of Commerce was established in 1985 due to the common interest for development of a bypass and street-scape projects. Members researched and lobbied with Council to improve the region with these projects, coming to an understanding that these projects benefited regional areas in the long term
. Past presidents such as John Lithgow, John Osborne, Bob Curtis and Alex Lagerwey, have all been prominent business owners in Yarra Glen and have all had a passionate interest in improving small business and the community of Yarra Glen in the Yarra Valley. Currently the Presidentship lies with Rod Thomas, a local farmer and businessman dedicated to his community and it’s people. With extensive knowledge and experience in Council legislation, he has assisted in dealing with local issues, liaising with Council and improving local amenities and landscaping through the continued Township Development Plan which was birthed out of the Embrace Our Street project. Over the past 25 years the Chamber has achieved various goals such as:
Putting Main-street renewal on the priority list of the local Council. Continued maintenance to local amenities i.e. Improved communications with local Council, Councillors and Federal members. Engagement and production in partnership with council and YVR to improve landscaping, development and tourism links. Embrace Our Street Project landscape and aesthetic township development. Ongoing support for events such as the Winter Lights Festival and the Yarra Glen Arts Show. In recent times, the Yarra Glen Chamber Of Commerce Inc. has lobbied with council to further improve elements of the above mentioned points which topics that benefit locals, business and tourism. Newest installations include:
Train artefacts installation. Black Saturday memorial. Yarra Glen Planting and Landscaping. Yarra Glen walking trails. Wetlands link areas. These initiatives push for increased activity and development in the township to benefit traders, locals and the wider community. The Chamber and its members have a desire to see the area thrive and grow as a beautiful country town located just 50 minutes from the CBD. The Chamber aims to see growth for the town, attract more tourists to the area, develop strategies for ongoing festivals/events, continued communications with Council to strive for improved infrastructure and promote growth for small business. Becoming a member of the Chamber not only gives you a say, but the opportunity to be a part of a much bigger project. Members have opportunities to attend events and meetings as well as become part of a larger voice to lobby for change. Traders and businesses receive up to date minutes and invitations to these functions which are the perfect opportunity to promote your business.
