At our Veterans Event in Buderim Forest, it wasnโ€™t the plan that mattered, it was what unfolded.

Birdsong.
Stillness.
Connection to nature.
Strangers becoming friends through shared stories.

What started as a simple bird-watching focused session became something more - a space to slow down, reflect, and just be, which is exactly what is needed sometimes.

Thank you to all attendees for a relaxing, thoughtful afternoon together. ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿฆ

This free event was part of Veteransโ€™ Health Week: Connect, Move, Nourish, Thrive and was proudly supported by the Department of Veteransโ€™ Affairs.

Landslide remediation work continues โ€” we're back at Kureelpa Falls Rd!

After installing coir matting and logs on the slip, our team returned to the site to tackle the next critical step โ€” planting. We've now put 100 native trees and grasses in the ground to help stabilise the slope for the long term.

๐ŸŒณ Getting the plant selection right is everything. Here, we've chosen a diversity of local native species, plants that are already thriving in this area and are well suited to the steep terrain. As their roots establish, they'll work with the slope to hold soil in place and reduce sediment from reaching the Image Flat Water Treatment Plant, benefiting the local communities of Nambour, Yandina and Coolum.

๐Ÿ’ง This kind of on-ground work is what source protection looks like in practice โ€” protecting raw water quality before it ever reaches Seqwater's water treatment plant, helping to keep our region's drinking water clean, safe and sustainable.

Our Cert 1 Conservation and Ecosystem Management trainees, supported by the Skilling Queenslanders for Work program, recently took part in a collaborative morning of conservation and industry engagement, hosted by Noosa Council. ๐Ÿค๐ŸŒฑ

Set within Ironstone Nature Refuge, trainees gained valuable insights into the siteโ€™s ecological significance, current restoration works, and long-term environmental outcomes. They also learned about koala research being undertaken within the reserve and across the Noosa Shire Council area. ๐Ÿจ

Noosa Council staff and Ecollaboration's natural areas crew shared their career journeys and practical knowledge, offering trainees a clear view of potential pathways into the conservation sector.

Our crew also contributed on-ground perspectives, including progress managing priority w**ds such as Cats Claw and Lantana, and the role of strategic management planning in ecological restoration.

Even more inspiring was reconnecting with former trainees who are now working in the field, on our crews and with Council. Itโ€™s a powerful reminder of the ripple effect these opportunities create for individuals, families, and the wider community.

Thank you to Noosa Council for working together on this project and coordinating the site visit.

This training is proudly supported by the Queensland Government through Skilling Queenslanders for Work.

Our team has been hard at work on a landslide remediation project within the South Maroochy River catchment.

This property sits on steep terrain and when a landslide occurs, it doesn't just affect the land. Unstabilised slopes produce sediment that can find its way into waterways and, ultimately, into the water supply dams that serve our region's communities.

The first stage on this project was:
๐ŸŒณ Clearing and treating invasive w**ds and grasses that had taken hold across the landslide area
๐ŸŒณ Installing coir matting and logs to stabilise the slope and slow water runoff
๐Ÿ‘‰ Next up: planting. Stay tuned for our next update

๐Ÿ’ง Protecting water at the source is the vital first step in delivering clean, safe drinking water to 3.8 million South East Queenslanders. This is what source protection looks like on the ground.
