Yaegl Native Title

Background

The Yaegl Native Title claim was made in November 1996, the claim was for the land and waters in the Lower Clarence region between Harwood and the area where the Clarence river meets the ocean. After years (17 years) of negotiations native title consent determination for the Yaegl People was made 25THJune 2015 over a different area that included land and water.

On 31 August 2017, the Federal Court made a sea claim determination that the Yaegl People have native title rights and interests over areas from Woody Heads to the North and as far South as the Wooli River.
